Agora of Humanity
For 3 days, creators, trade unionists, deputies, intellectuals, political leaders and activists took part in meetings in a space at the center of the Festival, on the Jean Jaurès esplanade, where they were able to discuss political life, the struggles social, science and culture. Visitors were able to meet great personalities at popular universities.
The first day of this meeting of all the left, was marked by the inauguration of the Festival with the speech of the director of Humanity, Fabien Gay. After the Secours Populaire seminar with Gustave Massiah, former president of CRID, Hélène Duclos and Ismaïl Hassouneh, the evening for peace and international solidarity began.
The following days saw the interventions of Fabien Roussel, boss of the PCF who raised a controversy, judging that « benefits feed unemployment », unlike the representatives of the NUPES. « In my France, there is no more unemployment, there are no more unemployment benefits, there is no more RSA, there is no more replacement income which makes it possible to feed unemployment. « , did he declare. This version of the Fête de l’Huma was also the occasion for a couple to see their union sealed by Fabien Roussel, himself, in front of thousands of people. It was also the great return of the socialists and Jean-Luc Mélenchon after 6 years of absence.
The World Village
The inauguration of the Village du monde by Fabien Gay took place on Saturday morning. Numerous debates then took place over 2 days, not forgetting the action of environmental MPs who expressed their disagreement with Chinese policy in front of the country’s stand, denouncing the fate of the Uyghurs and demanding their release. The Chinese embassy, however, promised « a festive experience ».
The village was established to fight against capitalism, imperialism and oppression while celebrating international solidarity by bearing witness to their respective struggles. Topics this year included « Ending the 60-year U.S. blockade of Cuba », « The call for the release of Franco-Palestinian lawyer Salah Hamouri and African-American journalist American Mumia Abu-Jamal »
Debates and interviews
For 3 days, the theme was Peace, whether in the Ukrainian conflict, the Israeli-Palestinian war, the clashes in the Sahel or in Yemen, without forgetting the showdown between the United States and China. Food shortages, inflation, climatic and economic upheavals have shown that political crises and reversals of power require international solidarity.
The debate « Angry not fachos? Or vote of adhesion to the ideas of the RN? », Opposed Pierre Wadlow, doctor of political science, Bruno Nottin, leader of the PCF, François Ruffin, deputy Nupes / FI, Louise Gaxie, of the foundation Gabriel Peri, Violaine Girard, sociologist and Marine Tondelier, elected Europe Ecology Les Verts.,
Jean-Luc Mélenchon was questioned from the platform of the Agora. He talked about Covid-related inflation causing a bigger than 10% increase. He asked for super profits to be taxed, to show who the enemy is. Its proposal to freeze prices dates from last year. Jean-Luc Mélenchon defended the NUPES against the reservations of Fabien Roussel and François Ruffin
An uncompromising face-to-face pitted Philippe Martinez, general secretary of the CGT against Roland Lescure, minister responsible for industry. The CGT calls for a big day of social mobilization on September 29 to win salary increases. Faced with galloping inflation, declining purchasing power and the tense social context, the government advocates sobriety The two parties compared their visions of industrial policy after the health crisis and now the energy crisis.
Last day
Sunday, September 11, from 12:15 p.m., an extraordinary session at the National Assembly is broadcast live. The new NUPES deputies defend bills that they submit to the votes of the public of the Agora: Anna Pic (PS) defends a bill for a tax on superprofits, Soumya Bourouaha (PCF) pleads for the increase of the minimum wage and wages and the young guarantee, Jean-Victor Castor (GDR) for the restitution of land in Guyana, Marie Porchon (EELV) for compliance with a green rule on planetary limits and Rodrigo Arenas (FI) for full free and entire school.
At 1:30 p.m., a debate opposed Natacha Polony, editorial director of Marianne, to Fabien Gay, director of l’Humanité. Finally, at 5:30 p.m., the last debate: « When capitalism deforms the round ball. Can football remain popular?”, brought together Marie-Georges Buffet, former Minister of Sports (PCF) and François Da Rocha, historian.
