RC Vannes achieved a feat this Friday evening, overthrowing Colomiers, 3rd in the standings, on his lawn (23-29). This is the Bretons’ first away win of the season.
Yet dressed in white against Colomiers on Friday night, for the 12th day of Pro D2, the Bretons delivered a colorful performance, winning away for the first time this season and overthrowing the 3rd in the standings (23-29).
The RCV, notwithstanding the absences of Abendanon and Hilsenbeck, had a good shot to play in the western suburbs of Toulouse after their home victory against Provence Rugby last week.
Arguably the number the Vannetais are most happy with at Colomiers, they finally snagged their first away win of the season. A paid trip after which they had been running since the start of the championship without ever getting it.
A difficult first period, RC Vannes managed to reverse the match and register four tries after half-time. Until the 80th minute, it was therefore with five points in the baggage that the Vannesians expected to set off again. This was without counting Colomiers and Edoardo Gori, who scored the test canceling the offensive bonus from Vannes, which nevertheless brought back four points in Brittany.
After a pitiful first period for the RCV, yet domineering, but which failed to materialize a single highlight (13-3 at the break), when Colomiers, realistic, followed, the Bretons returned from the locker room with ambitions.
On the restart, however, the latter resumed very well, both thanks to the tests signed by Sacha Valleau and Jérémie Abiven as well as to the coaching carried out by Spitzer and Frazer. The contours of the comeback on the heels of Columérins not at bay but in delicacy with their offensive redistribution were emerging.
Author of 4 tries in the second half, including one from the first minutes of play, the Vannetais were patient, precise and playful. They reversed the trend of the match and silenced a very silent Colomiers in the second act.
Despite a comeback in the 79th minute from Colomiers – a try from Gori – Vannes held on and clinched an essential victory in their competition. Finally, the awakening of the Vannetais.
The RCV has given itself a little more air in the standings: it is now 5 points ahead of the first relegation and is 4 points behind the Top 10.
Very good, even, since the Vannetais played one of the best second periods of their season, with four tries.
Among the other satisfactions of the evening, a paying coaching in the 50th, with the entries of players with low playing time. Quentin Étienne (3 matches) and Branden Holder (4 matches) were particularly illustrated at the opening and at the center . Entries full of envy that give the group confidence: even running with guys who haven’t played for a long time, everyone is up to speed, the third row noted.
Etienne transforms and Vannes returns to a very small point of Colomiers. What a change in situation!
Abiven grabs the ball on the sidelines and flattens in the in-goal, surprising the defense of the Blues. Vannes returns (16-13). Etienne transforms and Vannes returns to a very small point of Colomiers.
Branden Holder crept along the line on the right side and “broiled” Alexis Palisson in person in a pocket square. For the first time, Vannes is in charge: 22-16. Stronger still, not only did the Garonne not even pocket the defensive bonus, with the ultimate achievement coming far too late to turn the tide.
US Colomiers lost for the second time in a row at home. The Columérins who were in the lead at the 13-3 break were finally overthrown 23-29 by pragmatic and domineering Bretons in conquest.
However, the evening went less well for Colomiers, fourth and Montauban, fifth. The Columérins suffered Vannes’s law in their lair of Michel-Bendichou (23-29), despite leading 13-3 at halftime thanks to a penalty try (29th). But the Bretons woke up after returning from the locker room, and scored four tries by Sacha Valleau (45th), Jérémie Abiven (58th) and two penalty tries (63rd and 75th). Colomiers also scored a penalty try just before the siren, but it was too late. Vannes goes back to 13th place.
