The new US sanctions will only “exacerbate the suffering” of the Syrian people

Iran’s foreign spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, said on Thursday: “The new US sanctions against the Damascus authorities are “economic terrorism” and will only “inflame the suffering” of the Syrian people.”

“Racism is one of the very old subjects and programs of the United Nations, but despite the efforts and measures that have been deployed for several decades, we have witnessed today the atrocities and brutalities in the United States at the on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Africa Day, which shows that the fight against racism must enter a new era, so that we will ultimately see a day when people are not victims of racism all over the world, “he added.

Foreign ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi deplored the UN secretary-general’s decision to remove the Saudi-led coalition from a blacklist of human rights abusers in a statement on Tuesday of the child.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran lambasted the UN for its double standards, two human rights measures after the UN chief’s decision to withdraw the military coalition led by Saudi Arabia to Yemen from a list of child rights violators.

The United States announced on Wednesday dozens of sanctions intended, according to Washington, to deprive Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his supporters of resources in the hope of ending “the unnecessary and brutal war” in Syria.

According to US Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo, “anyone who does business with the Assad regime, anywhere in the world, faces travel restrictions and financial penalties.”

Iran “has no respect for this kind of cruel, unilateral, and aggressive sanctions and considers it to be economic terrorism against the Syrian people,” Moussavi said in a statement.

These sanctions are “contrary to international law and human values” and will only “exacerbate the suffering of the Syrian people,” added the spokesman, promising that Tehran will maintain its economic ties with Damascus.

Iran, targeted by the heaviest arsenal of extraterritorial sanctions ever developed by the United States, is with Russia one of the main allies of the Damascus government in the war that has ravaged Syria since 2011.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman condemned the expansion of EU and US sanctions against Damascus, saying that such sanctions will only target the Syrian people.
