The national mobilization took place in 43 cities, aimed at opposing the unfair and ill-advised policies of the government.
The mobilization was called by the CGIL and the UIL to demand a change in the budget, considered totally insufficient to solve the country’s problems, and to demand an increase in the purchasing power of wages and pensions and the financing of healthcare, education, public services and industrial policies.

The squares of Padua, Rovigo, Treviso (with Belluno), Venice, Verona Vicenza were filled with over 20,000 workers and pensioners, united to demand an increase in wages and pensions, to finance health, education and public services, to invest in industrial policies to stop the decline of the country and our region.
The day of protest in Bologna began early in the morning with pickets on the tram construction sites, in front of schools (Altrovandi Rubbiani) and in front of many important companies, public bodies and department stores in the area (Automobili Lamborghini, Coop Alleanza 3.0 in Piazza Martiri, In’s in San Donato, Acer, Inps, Magazzino Brt in Calderara di Reno…). In the Rimini school district, Di Duccio remained closed with full participation of school staff, while at the Liceo Serpieri the participation exceeded 50%.
The strike proclaimed to counter the unfair and wrong choices of the government also saw a strong participation from the Reggio Emilia region. Thousands of people travelled to Bologna by bus and train, with a very strong participation in the Reggio Emilia region. Even the automotive sector – Paggio told Ansa – is an important part of the Umbrian production system and is in great difficulty. In this context of income and pensions at their lowest, the government is responding with increases of three euros per month and this is unacceptable. Wide support for the general strike in Sicily and a large turnout in the street demonstration in Palermo. In Abruzzo and Molise, protests and demonstrations were encouraged because of the general strike proclaimed today by the CGIL and the UIL. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the square of Cagliari for the regional procession, on the occasion of the general strike proclaimed by the CGIL and the UIL against the government’s maneuver. The very first data of the general strike in Sardinia for the entire local public transport sector, published by the regional secretary of Filt Arnaldo Boeddu, amount to 70% on average. The strike relating to the air sector also began at 10 am with the first cancellations of flights arriving and departing from the island’s airports. Similar situation in maritime transport with the small islands of La Maddalena and Carloforte where the membership reaches a percentage with peaks of 70%.
Today, in Naples, there are at least 30,000 marching for the general strike proclaimed by the CGIL and the UIL against the government’s budgetary measure.
Turin and Piedmont do not accept that the government eliminates work, they do not accept that we continue only with precarious work. Participation in the general strike was a major strike against the government with a rate between 75 and 95% at the national level.
