After the resurgence of the coronavirus epidemic in France, Great Britain announced Thursday that it was imposing a 14-day quarantine, starting Saturday, August 15 at 4:00 a.m. (5 a.m., Paris time), at people arriving from France, the Netherlands, Malta, Monaco, Aruba Islands and Turks and Caicos, as well as countries where they have traveled or transited, which are not in the exemption lists, since they have left this country.
Following the announcement of this quarantine, hundreds of thousands of people must return to their countries urgently. There were 500,000 British travelers on French soil, some of whom shortened their stay to avoid the fortnight announced Thursday by the British government and 160,000 French holidaymakers who were to return to France.
In the space of 2 days, the Eurotunnel shuttles were fully booked and in France, the Calais ferry companies increased the number of passengers: capacities were increased from 500 to 750 passengers per ferry, the Danish company DFDS having already doubled its reservations.
Regretting the British decision, France announced a similar measure under reciprocity while hoping for a quick return to normal.
During the quarantine, all travelers coming from France will have to declare a place of self-containment in the United Kingdom, in which they will have to keep isolated for 2 weeks.
If the place of confinement (hotels, family or friends) does not meet the required conditions, the British government will organize confinement in a suitable establishment. Travel by your own means (for example by car) to the place of containment should be preferred.
Any breach of this mandatory measure, which can be verified, is punishable by a fine of between 1000 and 3200 GBP (from 1100 € to 3500 €).
Before entering the UK (48 hours prior to arrival), travelers must complete a form with their contacts, address of residence or stay, and travel information (This is done on the UK government website) . However, the PCR screening test is not compulsory for travel between France and the United Kingdom.
Anyone entering the UK must download the NHS Covid-19 app and use it for the duration of their stay.
For any trip to Great Britain for a period of less than 14 days (quarantine), you must remain confined during the entire stay. To leave, it is not necessary to use public transport to reach the airport or the train station.
Conditions to follow during quarantine:
Do not go to his place of work
Do not attend school
Do not use public transport or taxis
Do not receive visitors including friends and family unless their help is essential.
Do not go out to shop if it can be done by others
Persons exempted from containment measures upon entering British territory:
Road carriers and freight carriers
Individuals practicing a medical profession, and who work to fight the Covid-19 epidemic.
Anyone traveling within the Common Travel Space (UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man).
Seasonal workers in agriculture.
Once the fortnight is over, the UK government’s instructions on social distancing measures will need to be followed.
For people coming from the United Kingdom to France, the reciprocity measure concerning the British quarantine will be applied, they will also have to follow the social distancing measures and wear the mask in closed environments (hotels, places of worship, libraries, restaurants and bars., public transport …) and even outside in many large cities (Paris, Lille, Marseille …).
There is a general deterioration in indicators in France. The number of people diagnosed positive for Covid-19 increased by 2,846 new cases against 2,669 on Thursday, according to the latest report published on Friday. Paris and the Bouches-du-Rhône have been in the red zone since Friday August 14th.
In order to avoid the spread, the obligation to wear a mask in Paris has been extended to new districts such as the Champs-Elysées, the Champs de Mars, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre district, Ile St Louis and Ile de la Cité, from Saturday morning August 15. The Paris police prefect said in the process that it « could become mandatory throughout the capital if the epidemiological situation were to deteriorate again. There are currently around thirty zones in all the districts, in entire neighborhoods for some and no longer just a few streets and arteries.
Gatherings and demonstrations of more than 10 people which will not guarantee the respect of the barrier measures will be prohibited; reinforcement of controls in areas and places open to the public, including bars, restaurants and terraces, as well as in public transport.
Areas where wearing a mask is mandatory:
All of the low quays, the banks of the Seine accessible to pedestrians and gentle circulation
