The 68ème birthday of the day of Europe will be celebrated on May 9th

Like each year, Europe will celebrate the Day of Europe on May 9th. It is a question of celebrating peace and the unit in Europe. This year the emphasis will be placed on the European cultural heritage.

The day of Europe originates in the declaration of Robert Schuman, French Foreign Minister in 1950 who proposed a new form of political cooperation for Europe in order to draw aside   any war enters the nations of the continent. This agreement related to the production of steel and coal by a European institution. A few months later, a treaty is signed. The proposal of Robert Schuman is regarded as the birth certificate of the European Union.

To celebrate the Day of Europe, the institutions of the European Union open with the public on May 5th in Brussels, May 5th and 9th in Luxembourg and on June 10th in Strasbourg. The local offices of the Union in Europe and in the world stage activities and demonstrations for all. Each year, of the thousands of people take part in visits, debates, concerts and other events at the time of this day intended for better making known the European Union.

To celebrate the 60ème birthday of the bases of Europe and the installation of the treaties of Rome setting up a Common Market in which the people, the goods, the services and the capital can circulate freely, creating favorable conditions with the stability and the prosperity of the European citizens.

Activities are organized by the institutions of the EU (the European Parliament, European Commission, European Economic and Social Committee (CEASE), European Committee of the areas (CdR), European Investment Bank (EIB), European Dated Protection Supervisor (EDPS)).

In France, the commemorations started at the end of February 2017, continued with the visit of the ambassador of Malta but also of the exhibitions, of the communication campaigns and media.

In Paris, Europe is put at the honor with concerts, debates and appointments on the Square of the Town hall and district. The FICEP (Forum of the Foreign Institutes Cultural in Paris) celebrates Europe, workshops on the citizenship, visits buildings of Emmaus Challenge within the framework of the program I T I (Territorial Investment Integrated) which acts for the development of the popular quarters, the EU supports and cofinances. Emmaus Challenge allows 250 people in great precariousness and exclusion to find an employment; between 2016 and 2020 program ITI supports about twenty projects in favour of the entrepreneuriat in the districts, of the environment and fight, and jobseeker, development training of young people of tools and digital services against the inequalities.

In addition, an exposure on the grids of the public garden of the Tower St Jacques takes place from May 7th to June 1st and in the 10th district, one week European greedy is held from May 4th to May 12th with 5 grocers and 7 restaurants by offering products of Poland, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Sweden. The embassies of Malta, Austria and Bulgaria will open with the public May 12th and 13th, also a night ago of the festival of Europe in which in cheap rate the people provided with the bracelet will be able to take part Celebrates Europe who can get it for the stand of the Town of Paris or the entries of the village. Other events will take place on this occasion.
