Pro-Palestinian demonstration in Paris: to say “stop the massacre in Gaza”

Protesters are calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The CGT, FSU, La France Insoumise, the Solidaires trade union, the France-Palestine-Solidarité association, the Mrap, the collective of Muslims of France and the French Jewish Union for Peace are among the forty member organizations of the collective.

Several thousand people gathered on Sunday in Paris to demand an end to Israel’s military operations in Gaza at the call of a collective bringing together left-wing organizations in particular. Protesters are calling for an immediate ceasefire.

“Israel assassin, Macron complicit”, “No peace without decolonization”, the demonstrators chanted in particular. The collective “For a just and lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis” at the initiative of the rally unfurled a banner at the foot of the statue of the Republic, calling on France to “request an immediate ceasefire” and “stop to the massacre in Gaza.

In the crowd, the flags of Palestine coexist with those of the far-left movements which have made the trip, such as the New Anti-Capitalist Party, Force Ouvrière and La France Insoumise (LFI).

The demonstration was authorized by the Paris police headquarters the day before the event, warning however “that no excess will be tolerated”. The gathering was held peacefully on Sunday, without clashes with the police, who were deployed in large numbers around Place de la République. Until now, demonstrations in support of Palestine were systematically prohibited, before the Council of State decided on Wednesday to leave it to each prefect to decide.

More than 1,400 people have been killed on Israeli territory by Hamas men since October 7, the majority of them civilians who were shot, burned alive or died of mutilation on the first day of the terrorist attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. according to Israeli authorities.

In the Gaza Strip, more than 4,650 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed in retaliatory bombings carried out by the Israeli army, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in Gaza.
