Mariza, makes her big comeback in Paris. For the entire Lusitanian diaspora and all fans, April 17 will be the unique, but long-awaited opportunity to meet the undisputed queen of fado on the stage of the Grand Rex in Paris.
But who is this Portuguese diva, too little known in France? Native of Mozambique, Mariza grew up in the neighborhoods of old Lisbon. Very young, she developed a predisposition for singing. After trying her hand at jazz, drunkenness and gospel, it is towards Fado that she turns; a popular song that will carry her and make her the international star she has become. With its blond Maryline boyish cut, its tattooed baroque fashion elegance, the Fado star has more of a rock star aura. She checks the codes and it does! From then on, Mariza went on to concerts across the world in the most prestigious venues, multiplied platinum records and crowned awards, among which there was a « Golden Globe Award » for the best performer of the year for her album « Transparente And another for the best selling album in Europe.
Mariza didn’t seek to be an exceptional artist at all costs, nor to be the best. She is a performer for whom singing is the sole responsibility. She simply knew how to democratize and popularize Fado through her charisma, her presence and the sweetness of her voice. No wonder that in May 2018, she was asked to open the 62nd Eurovisions competition alongside the other talented fadista who is also Ana Moura.
Worthy heir to Amália Rodrigues, to whom she pays homage in her latest opus, which will be released digitally on Warner on November 20 and in stores in January 2021, Mariza honors and pays homage to her Iberian traditions. His performances are all marked by emotion. Whether you understand the lyrics or not, its nuanced intonation grabs you and transports you on a magnetic journey that animates the senses.
