The Artkare project

Artkare defends the social and societal place of Art and artists to « build a future that resembles us as much as it brings us together ».

Artkare is a project initiated by the Clubs of Paris Porte d’Orléans (75014) and Paris Académies (75006), which have joined forces to organize a charity sale of works of contemporary art, offered by recognized, confirmed or emerging artists. The profits from the sale were directed to the association « La Source Garouste » created in 1991 by Elizabeth and Gérard Garouste. The 2023 theme was: « What Art for tomorrow? »

Who is the association « La Source Garouste »?

The « La Source Garouste » association was created in 1991 by Elizabeth and Gérard Garouste, designer and painter. Thanks to them, children, aged 6 to 18, in vulnerable situations, have a place where they can « liberate themselves, create and move forward in tolerance and discovery, in contact with artists and curiosity ». Children can acquire autonomy, an ability to carry out projects and regain self-confidence. They learn to use their imagination. « By learning to do, they learn to see, to be, to know themselves ». A sense of responsibility, a personal and collective commitment helps them to affirm their identity, to build their place in society and to project themselves into the future. « This stage embodies the beginning of a desire to participate in life in society and in the life of society ».

« La Source Garouste », located in 10 departments, organizes artistic practice workshops led by a pair made up of a professional artist and a member of the educational team. Offered over the long term, they promote social diversity. Thanks to them, young people can build themselves, develop their creativity, empower themselves on a personal and collective level, while strengthening their self-confidence and their spirit of initiative. The association is also approved by the Ministry of Culture and National Education and Youth. Each year, more than 13,000 children and parents benefit from artistic activities.

The actions of the association labeled « La France s’engage » are divided into 2 poles, social and educational. The « social pole » welcomes children and teenagers during extracurricular and extracurricular time, while the « educational pole » welcomes classes during school time. The action of the 2 mixed poles contributes to the effort that must be undertaken by all, public and private actors, to provide answers to the current challenges related to the awakening and education of all children.

Families are invited to workshop presentations, exhibitions and cultural outings. There are also parent-child workshops. For their part, young people are referred to the association by the departmental child welfare services, the social services of local authorities, NGOs or associations, directors, guidance counselors or educational establishments or by families.

The current health and economic crisis is causing financial and social hardship, particularly for children and young people who are less likely to find their place in society. it was therefore urgent to help them in this process. An auction for the benefit of the association was therefore a good way to support Artkare.
