Paris: On the Champs-Elysées, in Paris, it's already Christmas

The famous illuminations of the Champs-Elysées was launched this Sunday, November 21, in the presence in particular of the singer Clara Luciani chosen to be the godmother of this 2021 edition.

For the 4th consecutive year and until Sunday January 9, the “Flamboyance” spotlighting, produced by the Blachère company, will dress the famous Parisian avenue in a purple red dress, every evening from 5 pm to 2 am, and all night long during New Years Eve on December 24 and 31.

Vanessa Paradis, Jean Dujardin, Laëtitia Casta, Karl Lagerfeld… this year, it was singer Clara Luciani that she had the honor of succeeding Louane to press the light switch. Surrounded by Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, Marc-Antoine Jamet, the president of the Champs-Elysées committee, and two young girls from the Petits Princes * association, partner of the event. According to the committee, she represents her generation “in the grip of freedom, pride and independence.” His song Respire encore is described by the organizers as a “hymn of deconfinement and rediscovered freedom”.

The Committee, which brings together 180 economic and cultural players in the district, hopes for a minimum of 150,000 visitors per day during the end of the year holiday period, to “try to reach 10 million people” over the period.

Established in 1980, “these illuminations are essential, they are decisive” for the image of the avenue in the world, insisted Mr. Jamet.

The organization wants to see in these illuminations a return to “a joy of living” after the various crises that the Champs-Elysées, and Paris, have experienced. After the 2019 strikes, the “yellow vests” then the Covid-19 crisis … Tourists, French and foreign alike, have somewhat abandoned the “most beautiful avenue in the world”. Daily attendance has thus increased from 150,000 people in 2017 to 15,000 in March and is rising slowly. With these illuminations, Marc-Antoine Jamet hopes to “give back the meaning of celebration and Christmas” to the capital and see the attendance of the Champs-Elysées return to its level of a few years ago.

The Illuminations show was produced by the Committee thanks to the generosity and support of its members, the City of Paris and the event’s partners. Ferrero Rocher the illuminations partner for the third consecutive year, as well as the media, 20 minutes, France3 IDF and RMC.
