Morocco in the spotlight at the 61st International Agricultural Show

Aziz Akhannouch, Chef du gouvernement du Maroc

The Agricultural Show is rolling out the red carpet for Morocco, chosen as the event's guest of honor.

This year, a very special place for Morocco, guest of honor for the 2025 edition. While the great agricultural mass offers the discovery of foreign stands every year, it has never offered one of its hosts such status during this event dedicated, first and foremost, to the influence of French sectors.

The president of the show believes that Morocco’s presence will be able to bring new visions to French agriculture.

« Our two agricultures have a lot to learn from each other. French agriculture in particular, gradually confronted with a climate that our Moroccan friends have learned to overcome for centuries, will be able to usefully enrich itself with their expertise, particularly on the quantitative management of water », explained the Minister of Agriculture, Annie Genevard.

A warming up received with enthusiasm by the French cereal industry, which counts Rabat among its biggest customers. « The invitation of Morocco as guest of honor at the Salon de l’Agriculture is a very good thing. Even if our countries have experienced tensions, our partnership is not new and it is important to celebrate it », rejoices Philippe Heusele, president of the international relations committee of Intercéréales, the French lobby of the profession.

Morocco wanted to do things in a big way with a large delegation led by the head of government Aziz Akhannouch. He was accompanied this morning by several personalities; the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests; the Moroccan ambassador to Paris, many investors and operators in the agricultural sector.

If the Minister of Agriculture recalled during an event with the press that this choice was that of the organizers of the SIA, this honoring comes within the framework of a rapprochement between Paris and Rabat. Last summer, France announced its support for the Moroccan plan for autonomy in Western Sahara.

A large security presence could be observed around these personalities who walked the aisles of the show for a tour of the premises, especially the large Moroccan stand. The large stand reserved for Morocco in its ochre color and its desert palace style design attracts people with its traditional sounds.

The Moroccan stand in the international pavilion will be enlarged and will present products « from the Moroccan terroir », argan oil, olive oil, saffron and dates, listed the Director General of the Agency for Agricultural Development, El Mahdi Arrifi. In return, France will be in the spotlight at the next International Agricultural Show of Morocco, in April.

Fruit and vegetable producers are much less enthusiastic. For years, they have been denouncing unfair competition from Moroccan products, massively imported into Europe.
