A day of celebrations, commitment, and music enlivened Rome on the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
This year, the moment is all the more special as it is a particularly important one for the city: after the final greeting to Pope Francis this week, Rome is preparing to host the conclave, scheduled in less than a week.
In this Jubilee year, which has already attracted thousands of faithful and tourists from around the world to Rome, May Day is part of a program that is generating significant media attention and public participation.
The celebrations began late in the morning with the union march organized by the trade unions, which began in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and ended at the Imperial Forum. Among the dignitaries present were Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome, and Elly Schlein, leader of the Democratic Party (PD), who both took part in the march and expressed their support for workers’ rights and social justice.
Workers’ delegates and the general secretaries of the CISL and UIL Lazio took the stage and spoke. The final speaker was CGIL General Secretary Maurizio Landini, who emphasized the importance of stable, secure, and dignified jobs, underscoring the profound significance of May Day and inviting everyone to participate in the referendum on June 8 and 9.
A major event that combined music and social engagement as a sign of solidarity and workers’ rights.
