This Tuesday, November 28, the police dismantled a network of the Atman yoga federation and placed 41 people in police custody, including its spiritual leader, Gregorian Bivolaru, suspected of “human trafficking,” “organized gang kidnapping,” “rape.” » and “abuse of weakness in a gang organized by members of a sect”.
175 police officers were mobilized for this large-scale operation, coordinated by the OCRVP (Central Office for the Repression of Violence against Persons). During the arrests, 26 women, several of whom were under influence, were released, said a source close to the investigation.
Dozens of women kidnapped
The first significant reports of these supposed crimes were made in July 2022 by twelve former followers to Miviludes, the public body responsible for sectarian abuses. The investigation was then carried out by the OCRVP, the Central Office for the repression of violence against persons, notably via its Assistance and Intervention Unit in matters of sectarian aberrations (Caimades), specialized in mental control. the victims. And a judicial investigation was therefore opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office on July 10, 2023, based, among other things, on the complaints of three people. According to the testimonies of three former victims of Gregorian Bivolaru, collected in recent weeks by RFI, around ten women were regularly sequestered at the same time, for days, in several accommodations in the Paris region, in order to satisfy the sexual appetites of this guru Romanian. At the time of the arrest, according to our information, 26 women were on site in cramped conditions and deplorable hygiene.
According to our information, confirmed to Libération and to RFI by the Paris prosecutor’s office, Gregorian Bivolaru was arrested during a large-scale operation against his network. 175 police officers intervened simultaneously in Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Val-de-Marne and the Alpes-Maritimes. In total, 41 people were arrested.
The Misa movement, which became Atman
In July 2022, Miviludes (Interministerial Mission for Vigilance and the Fight against Sectarian Abuses) sent a report to the public prosecutor after being informed by the Human Rights League of 12 reports from former members of the movement Misa, said a judicial source.
But the story begins with the fall of Ceausescu in 1990, Gregorian Bivolaru, founded the original association of this federation in Romania, the Movement for Spiritual Integration in the Absolute, or Misa. A cult of the personality of this “guru” is then established in Misa, including orgies in his honor. At the same time, the Romanian authorities accuse Gregorian Bivolaru of human trafficking, pedophilia (rape and sexual abuse of minors) and tax evasion, which pushes him into exile. He obtained political asylum in Sweden in 2005, as well as a new identity, under the surname of Magnus Aurolsson. Two Danish members of the European Parliament defended Gregorian Bivolaru before European authorities, claiming that these prosecutions were political and that the Romanian judicial system was not independent. Ulla Sandbaek, an MEP until 2004 and in the Danish Parliament until 2019, was a regular follower in the Danish branch of the federation, Natha. In an interview broadcast about ten years ago by a Misa channel, she maintained that Gregorian Bivolaru was “a man of God who works for the benefit of humanity”. Could Ulla Sandbaek have been a member of the guru, would he have benefited from sexual favoritism and even money? Knowing that today he refuses to give information and make comments.
The Atman federation was excluded from international and European yoga federations in 2008 for these “pornographic” activities. She claims that the Romanian secret services would have tortured followers to testify against their founder, and refutes all accusations. Gregorian Bivolaru was, however, sentenced to six years in prison in Romania for rape of a minor, and extradited from France in 2016. He only spent a year in detention, before returning to Scandinavia where new prosecutions were initiated. against him. Six Finnish followers filed a complaint against Gregorian Bivolaru and Helsinki launched an international search warrant through Interpol in 2017. Since then, Gregorian Bivolaru continued to shower his followers with tantric preaching, reclusive from Paris or the Paris region.
