Following the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron on May 21, 2023 to Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital, the President of the Republic of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh and his wife, Luvsandorj Bolortsetseg paid an official visit to France from 10 to 14 October 2023.
Welcomed on October 10 on a privatized part of the tarmac at Orly airport by the Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, and the French Ambassador to Mongolia, Sébastien Surun, the Mongolian delegation included around fifty people .
On October 11, after participating in the France-Mongolia economic forum, the presidential couple attended the concert of the Morin khuur ensemble, official promoter of Mongolian culture, organized at the Palace of Versailles.
Thursday October 12 was dedicated to the signing of various contracts between the two countries before ending with a dinner at the Élysée attended by around a hundred guests, including the Prime Minister, G. Darmanin, various senators and deputies, ambassadors, representatives of Total, Orano, RGBM, as well as other companies involved in Mongolia. Mongolia specialists, notably R. Hamayon, emeritus research director at EPHE, and J. Legrand, emeritus professor and former president of INALCO, were also invited to this presidential dinner.
On October 13, 2023, the delegation headed to Nantes to inaugurate the exhibition “Genghis Khan: how the Mongols changed the world” at the Château des Ducs de Bretagne (10/13/23-05/05/2024).
The city then welcomed several hundred visitors, mainly Mongolians, who wandered around, most of them in traditional clothing, in the most sophisticated deels, often made for the occasion of this visit. Thus, the community of Mongols in France has the opportunity to demonstrate its patriotic fervor and its desire to make known different elements of its material and immaterial culture.
Nantes intends to welcome other Mongolian nationals during the winter and spring of 2023-2024, as it organizes various events around this exhibition and the artisan market that accompanies it. Its conservatory has also “bent over backwards” to offer its visitors the best of Mongolian music thanks to the Morin khuur ensemble which once again gave a mosaic concert around this official meeting of French and Mongolian cultures. .
