After 3 editions in Algeria (2013, 2015 and 2016), and 3 years of absence linked to the pandemic and political problems, the festival returns, starting with Paris. Its organizer, Racim Mahboub wanted to broaden the scope of Algerian humor outside his country. He therefore chose France, particularly its capital, for this great comeback.

History of the Algé’Rire Festival

In 2013, Tarik Ouhadj and Racim Mahboub created the Algé’Rire Festival, drawing inspiration from other international humor festivals such as Marrakech du rire in Morocco, created in 2011 by Djamel Debbouze. The godfather was Smaïn, about fifteen comedians, Algerian and Franco-Algerian, were present from April 30 to May 4, on the stage of the Chapiteau of the Hilton hotel in Algiers.

Organized by Broshing Events, this event also welcomed French standup stars, new figures from the comedy scene and renowned comedians such as Jamel Debbouze, Ramzy, Booder, Abdelkader Sector, Hadj Abderrrahmane (Inspector Tahar) or Fares Mekidech ( Unclefofi), Montreal creator of the “Couscous Comedy Show” and Nawel Madani for the first time in Algeria.

This first edition was a great success with 8,000 entries.

The 2015 and 2016 editions

After 2 years of absence, Algé Rire returned under the name of AlgéRire Comedy, “for the best and for laughter”. This new edition was produced in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, it allowed the Franco-Algerian comedian, Le Comte de Bouderbala to perform in his country of origin for the first time, believing that it is necessary to “give humor in Algeria”. The godfather of this opus was Ramzy. From May 13 to 16, 2015, the 2 stages of the Palace of Culture Zakaria in Algiers, saw around twenty artists parade in 9 shows and a 100% female show in the auditorium of the Palace of Culture.
On the program, Algerian and foreign comedians including Shirley Souagnon, Candii and La Bajon, but also Olivier DeBenoist.

The 3rd edition of Algé’Rire was held from May 11 to 14, 2016. It hosted big names in humor from Algeria and abroad including Ramzy, Jean-Marie Bigard, Kamel Abdat, Pierre Groce , Fabien Olicard, The Count of Bouderbala, Mohamed the Swede, Vérino, Pierre-Bruno Rivard…

In summary, the 2013, 2015 and 2016 editions were held in Algiers but also in Tlemcen and Oran. They brought together more than 60 artists over 15 evenings and welcomed more than 25,000 spectators and several thousand viewers on Canal Algérie. This success generated the production of a 4th edition which will be held from October 29 to November 1 in Algeria in 4 cities: Algiers, Tizi-Ouzou, Tlemcen and Oran.
