STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL the Norwegian three-master with a thousand lives, which had already made the trip in 1999 and 2008 with the Armada

Impressive three-masted Norwegian boat, the Staatsraad Lehmkuhl had not come to Rouen (Seine-Maritime) for 15 years.

The 98-meter-long ship built in 1914 in Bremen, Germany, the Staatsraad Lehmkuhl participated in the 8th edition of the Armada de Rouen (Seine-Maritime). Twin to the Duchess Anne, with three master squares, she is now rigged as a three-master.

20th century ship and a century of history, has undergone multiple changes of ownership

The Statsraad Lehmkuhl survived two world wars and trained thousands of sailors. However, it was in Germany that she was born in 1914 as a training ship for the German merchant fleet, christened Grossherzog Friedrich August, before being captured by the English during the First World War.

It was then acquired by the association of school ships of Bergen in 1921 and renamed Staatsraad Lehmkuhl, which means Prime Minister Lehmkuhl, in homage to Kristopher Lehmkuhl who worked at the beginning of the 19th century for school ships.

But Nazi Germany seized Bergen in 1940 and its boat which it repainted black during the Second World War and renamed Westwarts.

The boat operated by the Stiftelsen Seilskipet Foundation, Statsraad Lehmkuhl still sails today under the Norwegian flag.

He left the Armada on Sunday where a boat throws water behind the ship, offering visitors a superb spectacle at the end of the 8th edition of the Armada.

At the same time, an air show was offered by the Patrouille de France, on the occasion of the closing of the Armada 2023 edition.

A new meeting scheduled for 2027 where we can see maritime vessels on the banks of the Seine in Rouen.
