At the 55th International Paris Air Show (SIAE), VoltAero, led by Jean Botti, presented a range of new products.
The Cassio 330 represents a true technological leap forward, as well as the future of carbon-free aviation and mobility. Its Cassio S aircraft was scheduled to operate for the first three days using biofuel (E85). « It has been operational for four years now. » VoltAero also announced, on June 18, the signing of a very important agreement with Malaysia.
VoltAero announced at the airshow the signing of an agreement for 15 Cassio 330 hybrid-electric aircraft and an option for 15 more, which will be acquired by HM Aerospace Sdn Bhd for pilot training at Malaysia’s first flight academy following EASA certification and validation by the Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority.
VoltAero’s first production model, the Cassio 330, whose certification began this year, combines a high-performance Kawasaki internal combustion engine and a Safran EngiNeUS 100 electric motor, for a combined hybrid power output of 330kW. It has a range of 3.5 hours, extendable to 5 hours, a cruising speed of 200 km/h, and a capacity of five.
The HPU 210 hybrid system combines a high-performance internal combustion engine with a latest-generation electric drivetrain. This system offers pilots a « push-to-perform » feature, which increases available power by 40%, ensuring safer, more efficient, and optimized flights.
The Cassio S, which has accumulated over 185 flight hours and covered approximately 25,000 kilometers in various operational conditions.
The HPU 210 is equipped with Kawasaki’s H2SX internal combustion engine, providing a maximum continuous power of 150 kW, coupled with a 60 kW electric motor. The internal combustion engine provides propulsion, while the electric motor intervenes when higher power requirements are required. This approach reduces takeoff distances, ensures obstacle clearance, and occasionally increases the aircraft’s cruise performance.
With the agreement with HM Aerospace, VoltAero’s Cassio order book has grown to over 280 orders.
HM Aerospace was founded 20 years ago and the academy has graduated some 2,400 pilots. Tan Sri Halim Mohammad, Founding Director of the Halim Mazmin (HM) Group, said: « The Halim Mazmin Group shares a common vision with VoltAero: to innovate and excel while adapting to the rapidly evolving current and future market. By integrating the Cassio 330 into HM Aerospace’s fleet, we will use high-performance and highly eco-efficient aircraft to train the next generation of professional pilots. »
Jean Botti, CEO and Technical Director of VoltAero, said: « VoltAero looks forward to our long-term relationship with HM Aerospace and the Halim Mazmin Group as we join forces to introduce—and support—a new era of aviation training with the Cassio 330. »
The first production version of VoltAero, the Cassio 330, was certified this year. This first aircraft will be followed by the six-seat Cassio 480, with a combined electric-hybrid propulsion power of 480 kW, and the Cassio 600 with a combined electric-hybrid propulsion power of 600 kW and a capacity of 10 to 12 seats.
Up to 150 aircraft will leave this factory each year, assures Jean Botti, CEO and founding director of VoltAero. « It requires less than 300 meters to take off and is suitable for all airports in France. »
