The 2021 Pride March started in Pantin

New, the march started from the church of Pantin, in the Parisian suburbs (93) to reach the Place de la République in Paris.

After a year of absence, the Pride March returned this year to a new model. No tanks or podium but a few trucks showing demands. Nightclubs only open on July 9, no after-party.

New, the march started from the church of Pantin, in the Parisian suburbs (93), to reach the Place de la République in Paris. This change meant that the visibility of the march did not stop at the perif but was also present in the suburbs. For “Queer” people, this move to a popular suburb shows that they can also have a life in so-called “insecure” places. The slogan of the year was: “More rights, less blah-blah!” Too many promises, we regress! “

In another change this year, FLAG, the LGBTQI + police association, did not participate in the march. The association felt that “the police were not always welcome in the neighborhoods that featured on the march.”

The Pride Village

Before the walk, you could stroll in the “Village des Fiertés”, place de la Pointe de Pantin, along the canal. Many stands were present, including those of Interlgbt, Sexosafe or the Intersexes and Allies Collective. They received medical advice and information, some distributed condoms, pacifiers, bracelets, badges and flags. We could also eat and gain strength before the walk.

Interlgbt has made 2 vehicles (2 × 25 participants) available to People with Reduced Mobility or Disabled Persons. The first was at the front of the procession, the second more quiet.

The march

Once again this year, Interlgbt, which brings together some sixty associations including Aides, Acceptess-T, Act Up, Association of homoparentals families, etc., organized the event. The latter allowed a “return to life”, after the restrictions linked to the health crisis. The latter has left the most vulnerable out of the health system, not to mention those with family or social breakdown, left alone after the crisis.

After a few showers, the weather returned to fine, however the temperature did not exceed 20 ° C. No more mask or curfew. At 3:00 p.m., the procession left the church of Pantin to the sound of drums. The motorcycles of the Gai Moto Club, adorned with rainbow colors, led the way. He then joined the Porte de Pantin where we could meet the Mayor of the 19th arrondissement, François Dagnaud. In a festive atmosphere, it continued through Jaurès, along the canal to join Bd Magenta until its arrival point at around 6 p.m. The event ended around 8:30 p.m. Among the participants, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the “Paris Bears”, the “Bikers” or the “Drag-Queen”.

Glitter, rainbow-colored makeup adorned the demonstrators who had come alone or accompanied by their children and even their dog wearing the LGBT colors. All claimed that being LGBT should not discriminate against them. This year, the march was more political, we saw it on the signs and banners (Macron guilty …).

The revendications

At the health level

-The enlargement of the PMA. The Assembly is due to finalize the bioethics bill on June 29. The extension of assisted reproduction to single women and female couples is not enough. Trans parentage is also one of the requests. Most of the demonstrators wanted to express their anger.

-Conversion therapy. Ignored for too long, most of the time they are psychological, social and physical torture for all LGBTQIA + people. After a simple circular as a response, those concerned demand concrete and effective actions to strengthen the fight against these “therapies” and their authors who destroy us.

-The ban on mutilation of intersex children. Article 21 bis of the bioethics bill, voted in conformity by the National Assembly and the Senate, provides for the care of these children in specialized reference centers, without sanctioning the professionals who continue to practice. such operations. In addition, it requires a medical report so that people can correct their marital status. However, the UN committees and the Defender of Rights (since 2018) condemn the after-effects and the mutilations.

-More engagement in the fight against HIV. Resources equivalent to those deployed for the fight against covid are expected for the promotion of PrEP, TAsP and TPE.

-The suspension of the 3-month waiting period before accessing medical care (CSS). LGTBQIA + people need prompt care.

At the social level

-The fight against transphobia. In schools, businesses, administrations and institutions, trans people continue to suffer discrimination and violence.

-The de-maritalization of the Disabled Adult’s Allowance (AAH).

-The current system creating situations of dependency.

-Accommodation for asylum seekers. Having to find solutions for housing, they have to hide their sexual orientation and gender. OFPRA and CNDA files are quickly rejected, leading to expulsions. In addition, during detention in administrative detention centers, these people are victims of LGBTQI + phobic attacks, while the asylum application is in progress.

At the financial level

The “National Action Plan to Combat LGBTphobias” is moving forward, but the budgets allocated to DILCRAH are stagnating “despite the upsurge in LGBTQIA + phobic acts in recent years.

At an international level

France remains one of the least generous countries in supporting the global LGBTQI + movement. Of the 19 priority countries for France, 10 of them criminalize same-sex relationships. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs abolished the International LGBTI Fund, which supported projects that concretely advance the rights of LGBTQI + people abroad. Asylum seekers, whose lives are in danger, have more and more difficulties. The French reception policy is very hostile.

At the criminal level

For 5 years the government has passed a decriminalization law for the clients of sex workers. The European Court of Human Rights has accepted an appeal by 261 sex workers against the French state to denounce the inhumanity of this law. Since 2016 and then the health crisis, their situation has worsened. There is an increase in crimes, assaults and assassinations, and trafficking. The associations are calling for a real policy of social and anti-patriarchal progress, to claim access to rights, and to obtain recognition for all LGBTQI + people. We must “stop the murderers, not the clients”.
