History of the Fête à Neuneu
The Fête à Neuneu” is to the Bois de Boulogne what the “Foire du Trône” is to the Bois de Vincennes.
In 1815, Napoleon who had asked the mayor of Neuilly to give his agreement for the creation of a fair like many funfairs which initially sold goods.. In 1820, after the development of the festivities and the transformation into a meeting place between the popular and the high society, several thousand people flocked there to test the various stands and rides. This “Fête” is the occasion for the barkers to meet the visitors who appreciated them. It was also a way to discover exhibited phenomena such as two-headed goats, the giant man, the enormous woman or the bearded woman … Over the decades, the programs have evolved and changed.
In 1936, while the population of Hauts de Seine and Neuilly changed following urban changes and the evolution of the population, this popular festival disappeared but was reborn in 1983 thanks to Marcel Campion, also called the “king of the fairgrounds”.
