The « Why Me » exhibition of CharlyHO was inaugurated on November 28 at Salons Hoche-Paris in the presence of the mayor of the 8th Jeanne d’Hauteserre and many personalities, some of whom served as models.
The theme chosen for this exhibition is « Success and Talent ». It is divided into two series of works: on the one hand the Fine Art portraits of women and men who have distinguished themselves by their talent and their success, on the other hand the Guignols of the Info corresponding to the all the Presidents of the Fifth Republic.
« Success is the sum of the values that add up in the reflection of oneself, through the eyes of others.The talent is a perfect harmony between the state of the conscious and the subconscious, between gift and work ». This is how CharlyHO defines the theme of his last exhibition.
CharlyHO is a self-taught author and photographer. He has been practicing his art for 20 years.
Since his childhood, he has been collecting images cut from magazines of fashion, travel and art. He directed fashion projects (Marlboro Classic, Henri Cotton, Marina Yachting and recently La Maison Bonnet). The cinema was for him an unlimited source of images. At the age of 14, he was breaking up films into pictures and lights in his head. Today, the digital advances allow him to have another artistic approach with different combinations between shooting in the rules of art and algorithms.
Through his lens, the artist moves from « street photography to portraiture through the landscape or still lifes creativity limit by breaking the codes, moving the lines, transgressing the pre-established, not to provoke, but to propose a different point of view. » For him, « the photograph is made only of points of view ».
A « Fine Art portrait » is a unique achievement, an artistic portrait, halfway between photography and painting. This is the art photo par excellence, closer to painting in its treatment.
For models, the artist has chosen the men and women he admires, Jeanne d’Hauteserre, Oscar Sisto, Bob Sinclar, Anthony Phuong, Christopher Summit, Christian Etchebest., Tan Sun-Lay … and who have illustrated by their talent and success in France in different fields, fashion, business, sports, gastronomy, literature, journalism …
With a very particular technique – black-and-white portraits are taken in the studio, reworked with algorithms and then retouched with a brush – CharlyHO questions the faces, half-faces presented frontally. This aesthetic choice, at a time when we quickly zap from one image to another, forces us to dwell on his portraits and challenges us. One can not help wondering about the other side, hidden, on the deep personality of these talented subjects whose face is seen in very large format. The components of this personality, work, successes, failures, enthusiasms, disappointments, everyone is invited to imagine them by projecting beyond the visible.
CharlyHO offers France a dynamic image, conquering and diverse, men and women that courage and work unite.
Beside the large-format works, the photographer placed a small portrait of the person photographed with his words to define the talent or success.
The talent … « a seed that we are lucky enough to possess but that we must have the wisdom and patience to grow and, at its maturity, to benefit the greatest number … a mixture of daring, work and luck … the ability to innovate, to seduce, to convince … the audacity that others do not have … is to believe in oneself « .
Success … « no chance, only meetings … do what makes you happy, have a rich life … a fire that you create, it lights up, it makes you happy, it warms, but it can burn and destroy, you have to maintain it with measure so that it lasts a long time and share it, so success becomes what is called success. »
