On January 26, 2026, the Pathé Palace cinema in Paris hosted the premiere of the dramatic thriller Gourou, directed by Yann Gozlan. The event brought together Pierre Niney and his wife Natasha Andrews, alongside the film’s main cast.
Gourou stars Pierre Niney as Matthieu Vasseur, a charismatic coach who captivates audiences during intense seminars. His character promises to guide individuals toward a better life, before gradually spiraling into paranoia. The film explores the fine line between personal growth and manipulation, highlighting the potential abuses in self-help practices and the vulnerabilities they exploit.
The story follows the rise of this magnetic leader, whose increasingly extreme methods reveal a system rooted in emotional dependency and psychological control. Niney’s character, Matt, electrifies every stage appearance, selecting audience members on the brink of burnout to challenge them directly.
This is Yann Gozlan’s seventh feature film. He reunites with Pierre Niney following Boîte Noire, continuing a collaboration known for its psychologically demanding roles. Written by Jean-Baptiste Delafon, recognized for series centered on power and rhetoric, the film was shot across urban landscapes and minimalist settings to reflect the stylized world of seminars.
Alongside Pierre Niney, Gourou features Marion Barbeau, Anthony Bajon, and Holt McCallany. The film will be released in French theaters on January 28, 2026.
