PAD PARIS RETURNS TO THE TUILERIES FROM APRIL 5 TO 10

The 24th edition of PAD PARIS, Paris Art Design, takes place at the Tuileries from April 5 to 10, 2022 to the delight of lovers and collectors of contemporary design art.

The 24th edition of PAD PARIS, Paris Art Design, takes place at the Tuileries from April 5 to 10, 2022 to the delight of lovers and collectors of contemporary design art.

An unmissable international event, PAD Paris brings together the best galleries in the world, of historical and contemporary design on an original and unprecedented journey, revealing works and extraordinary personalities. You can discover the whole world of modern art, primitive arts, ceramics and jewellery.

This year, decorator Sandra Benhamou and interior designers from Studio Oitoemponto, Jacques Bec and Arthur Miranda were in the spotlight. The first for the scenography of the restaurant on the universe of an invitation to travel and the second for the Studio PAD.

After 2 years of absence, the 24th edition welcomes 16 new exhibitors including the Belgians from the Modern Shapes Gallery, the Parisian Laurence Bonnel and her Open Scene gallery. On the regular side, the Gosserez gallery took advantage of the new scenography of the architect interior and designer Pierre Gonalons to present exclusivities.

The 2022 PAD Prize

The PAD Paris jury was chaired by Jacques Grange, surrounded by 4 honorary presidents: Pierre Rosenberg, honorary president of the Louvre Museum; Hélène David Weill, president of the MAD international committee; Jean-Michel Wilmotte, architect and Marie-Laure Jousset, honorary curator and head of the Design department at the Center Pompidou.

The jury was made up of 13 interior designers accompanied by Adélaïde de Clermont-Tonnerre, editorial director of Point de Vue; Frédérique Dedet, chief director of Les Echos limited series; Thomas Du Pré de St Maur, Director of Perfume, Beauty, Watchmaking and Jewelery Creative Resources Chanel; Paul-Emmanuel Reiffers, Founder and President Mazarine; Mathhide Favier, Director of Public Relations, Dior VIP Pole; Olivier Gabet, MAD director; Danièle Gerkens, editorial director of Elle Décoration, Elle à Table and Art et Décoration; Fabien Vallérian, international director of Art and Culture Ruinart; Patrick Stark, designer; Terry of Gunsburg, Founder By Terry; Alexandra van Houtte, Founder and President Tagwalk;

The 2022 PAD Prize was awarded in 3 categories: the Stand Prize, the Contemporary Design Prize and the Historic Design Prize. Each of them rewards the scenography, the selection of works and the distinctive character that each piece brings to the signature of the show.

How are PAD applications selected?

The Selection Committee, made up of merchants known and recognized in their specialties in France, the United States, Spain and Great Britain, is in charge of examining new applications according to the criteria of ethics, quality and aesthetics that make the reputation of the PAD. They guide the organizers on the political strategies of the art market and select the galleries, in certain exceptional cases there is a vote.

What is the CSA?

The 1st PAD show was created in 1998. It is the most important founding and essential event for international Design collectors. after 23 editions.
It brings together the best international and French galleries of historical, modern and contemporary design.
The PAD discerns the aesthetic and plastic aspirations of its time, It offers the best of Design in an ever-changing decor that encourages a new look at the visitor between the specialties between the Decorative Arts and Design.
Over time, the PAD affirms its personality and a unique point of view on the Art of Living and collecting. It is the cradle of contemporary taste for 20th and 21st century design.

Some galleries present in 2022

Jean-Marc Lelouch Gallery

After several years of absence, the Jean-Marc Lelouch gallery is back. Specializing in furniture and objects from the second half of the 20th century, but also an editor, very metal, Jean-Marc Lelouch identifies with the style of this new edition, “a mixture of art and decoration, creation and vintage”. The gallery, located quai Voltaire in Paris, exhibits artists like Philippe Hiquily who created “African Queen” in the 1950s, the beginning of a long series. “The Seated Woman” is another of his creations (1958).

The Jallu Gallery

Located in Brittany between Rennes and Avranches, in Bazouges-la-Pérouse, Jallu Ebenistes is the glory of this Breton village where 20 craftsmen make furniture inlaid with precious materials. Yann Jallu, Compagnon du Devoir, is at the head of this company, with his wife Sandra, artistic director and American painter. After 5 years spent working for the Atelier Viollet in New York, they decided to return to France to try their luck, settling in Bazouges.

Open Stage Gallery

Located rue Mazarine in Paris, Open Scene is a gallery born shortly before the pandemic. It is the result of the meeting of 2 women: Laurence Bonnet and Zoé Vescia. The first, artist, collector and passionate about Design, began by settling at the Paul Bert Flea Market in St-Ouen and presenting white works on a white background. The second works for a New York gallery. During the past 2 years, they have organized exhibitions by promoting at a distance, an innovation!. For Laurence and Zoé, participating in the PAD is a first. In 2020, they participated in the Collective fair in Brussels, Art Basel Miami and Art Paris.
Most of the artists exhibited are under 30 years old. Among them we find the Scottish Gemma Barr (armchair made of steel bars covered with an unknown material) or the Parisian Léa Mestres and her lamps.

Dumonteil Gallery

Located rue de l’Université, Carré Rive Gauche in St Germain des Prés, (75007), the Galerie Dumonteil has specialized in modern and contemporary art since 1982, the year of its creation by Pierre Dumonteil and his wife Dothi, muse of St Laurent, who died in 2013. Since 2015, Roxane Dumonteil has joined her parents’ gallery, giving it a facelift and going to fairs in London, New York, Shanghai and Singapore in search of new talent.

The gallery has exhibition spaces in Paris, New York (USA) and Shanghai (PRC) to discover and promote the artists of tomorrow (to date, about twenty) as well as celebrities of the 20th century. In addition, the gallery is particularly interested in animal art and its interpretation. There are works by Hubert Le Gall and Jean-Marie Fiori, for bestiary furniture, Eric Pillot, Jean-Claude Meynard, and Ruben Fuentes for their photographic works or Marcel Derny for sandstone pieces and Daniel Daviau, for his bronze animal sculptures, some of which are life-size.
In 2019, the gallery devoted an exhibition to 2 contemporary artists, the Chinese Jijung Meng and the French resident in China Wensen Qi (alias Vincent Cazeneuve). Their works are inspired by the ancestral style of lacquer.

The gallery has been present at the Pad for several years, whether in Paris, Geneva, London or Monaco. For the 2022 Parisian edition, it presented works by its flagship residents such as “the sofa in bronze and fabric or “the Grand Cabinet Sumer” in bronze and dark ash by Jean-Marie Fiori as well as several sculptures by Daniel Daviau, among which “the tarsier”, the Belgian hare”, “the chow-chow” …

See you next year at the Jardin des Tuileries where the PAD will celebrate its 25th edition with some nice surprises.
