At the call of the unions, CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires, Fidl and MNL, an interprofessional union strike was organized throughout France on 27 January.

The purpose of this mobilization was to ask for an increase in the minimum wage and the index point for civil servants. They are asking for an increase in all wages, allowances and retirement pensions following galloping inflation (+2.8% over one year in December) and record dividends.

Second day of demonstrations on January 29 throughout France, the first against the vaccination pass and those of the Yellow Vests
In addition, the residents of the 12th arrondissement had gathered against crack in Paris in front of the town hall of the 12th arrondissement. They were demonstrating against the prefecture’s decision to move the camp for crack smokers from the 19th arrondissement (Porte de la Villette) to the 12th arrondissement. However, after 4 days, the prefecture has given up on its project for the moment.

General strike of January 27

170 inter-union demonstrations took place throughout France, following the call for a general strike bringing together several thousand people from all public sectors (education, health, transport, etc.). The regret of the unions is to note the lack of boost to the Smic beyond the annexations as well as the point of index not raised during the five-year term.

However, there is a low mobilization. there was less than one teacher in 10, i.e. 20% (8 to 9% less than the previous time), disrupted transport including the RER B in Paris or in the provinces. No TGV disrupted but Ter towards Normandy and Rennes were affected.

In terms of participation in the provinces, there were around a hundred people in St-Etienne, 350 in Roanne, 3,400 in Toulouse, 900 in Cherbourg, nearly 1,000 in Nice or 900 in Lorient.

In addition, high school students blocked establishments in Paris, Rennes or

The Parisian procession

In Paris, the procession of several thousand demonstrators left the Place de la Bastille around 2 p.m. to join the Ministry of the Economy in Bercy. We could note the absence of the CFDT which must organize a “march of essential workers” in the west of Paris on February 3.

Among the demonstrators, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, LFI presidential candidate, had come to support the strikers who were demanding an increase in wages in the face of the high cost of living. He asks for a net minimum wage of €1,400 and negotiations by branch.

The event was also marked by the presence for a second time of the look-alike of the Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, who marked the news with his escapade in Ibiza. Mocked, the minister (look-alike) was seen standing on a truck, dancing to festive music and surrounded by people.

The demonstration arrived in Bercy without problems around 5:30 p.m. According to the CGT, it brought together nearly 20,000 people.

The vaccination pass

Throughout France, 162 rallies took place, such as in Strasbourg, Marseille, Lille or Nice. We counted nearly 30,000 people throughout France, including 5,300 in Paris

They come after the entry into force of the vaccination pass which replaces the health pass, on January 24 and will last until it is no longer necessary. However, it has undergone changes:

  • Period of validity of the reinstatement certificate reduced from 6 to 4 months
  • Without a booster dose, the people concerned will be deprived of their pass from February 15

This law is applicable in principle until July 31, 2022, the deadline for the end of the state of exit from the health emergency.

Rally against the displacement of the crack camp

After the announcement of the prefecture, on January 24, to move the “crack camp” from the 19th (Porte de la Villette) to the 12th (on SNCF land), the elected officials of Paris and Val-de -Marne spoke out against this decision. It took 4 days for the prefecture to backtrack:. “The current camp must expect a “long occupation” declared the prefect of police Didier Lallement.

Despite the abandonment of the project, the inhabitants of the 12th met in front of the town hall of the arrondissement from 3 p.m. to say “No to crack in Paris, neither in the 19th, nor in the 12th, nor elsewhere”

A look back at the 4 days of negotiations

  • Monday 24: Destruction of the Square Forceval slum. The police will be able to better monitor dealers and transactions.
  • Tuesday 25: Announcement of the trip.
  • Wednesday 26: Veto of the City of Paris. Possibilities of legal action
  • Thursday 27: Anne Hidalgo against the prefect Lallement, Withdrawal of the announcement
  • Friday 28: Report by the prefect of the impediment to travel by the city of Paris. “The move will not take place now but the inhabitants of the 19th, Pantin and Aubervilliers must expect a long occupation of the public space of the square. It is illusory to believe in quick and simple solutions to treat These persons.
