Like every year, Christmas is the time of illuminations on major streets and department stores. Each of them takes children on a journey thanks to their windows and a theme of their own.

The City of Lights lives under the magic of Christmas, to the delight of Parisians and tourists. while the streets are adorned with a thousand lights to the sound of entertainment in the many Christmas markets. Since 1900, it has been an opportunity to stroll around and discover the lively decorations of the animated windows of department stores, an unmissable stopover of the season. This is why from mid-November, the windows of Printemps Haussmann, Galeries Lafayette, BHV Marais, Samaritaine, Bon Marché Rive Gauche and Beaugrenelle are transformed into a theater of skits where automatons come to life in sets enchanting creations by artisans and decorators.

Galeries Lafayette: Christmas of my Dreams

After the Hive in 2019, the Christmas village in 2021 and the planet Elato tree last year, fashion designer Charles de Vilmorin and Atelier Bournillat are at the helm of the department store’s Christmas decorations with “Christmas of my dreams” , the magical story of a little girl and a magic paintbrush who travel to an imaginary land to meet their dreams, thanks to 10 paintings. Inside, the decorations and the large 15 meter high tree sit in the middle of the main store, on each floor enchanted characters come to life. You can discover this magnificent spectacle from the glass walkway.

Spring Haussmann

This year, Printemps Haussmann takes you on a journey into the magical and fun world through the windows and floors. There you will meet astonishing creatures on the theme “Paper Christmas”. Paper becomes the messenger of end-of-year wishes, carried by enchanting birds. For 2023, there will be 170,000 paper decorative elements including 95 animated characters, 3.4 km of light garlands and 170 trees spread across all stores. The inauguration took place in the presence of Catherine Deneuve.

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche has been celebrating Christmas for 170 years. Rue de Sèvres, the windows invite passers-by to discover the magic of Christmas. This year, on the theme of “Christmas in all its forms, a life-size teddy bear, dressed in a gold sweater welcomes passers-by. Inside, under the decorated glass roofs, a large selection of gifts will attract buyers. The Adada bears tour the bakery, the baguette cabaret (in a big premiere) to end their journey among the kitchen utensils for the casserole choir and the socks ballet.

The BHV-Marais

Colorful and lively windows at BHV-Marais, rue de Rivoli (75004), a play of lights illuminates the facades in a modern style on the theme “Once upon a time there was Christmas in the forest”. During the inauguration, on November 8, the store organized a show featuring a procession of animals under the illumination of the facades. A dedicated pop-up revealed a product offering.

The Samaritaine Pont-Neuf

The theme “Paris jubilee” is on the program for the windows of the Samaritaine lit by chandeliers by Mathieu Lustrerie for Christmas 2023. From November 8, 2023 and until January 9, 2024, the Samaritaine is transformed into a “Palais es délices” where reign gluttony and French art of living and the art of hosting for a moment of joy. In the windows, fashion, trees and chandeliers mix. In the Atrium, we discover the magical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. as well as festive or snackable activities. The aisles reveal the gourmet and offbeat works of artists Gab Bois and ThomasLiu Le Lann. The partner of the operation is Warner Bros for the release of the film “Wanka”. As for Santa Claus, we see him walking the aisles to the sound of swing (rock, charleston or breakdancing) that is in his skin.
