International Children’s Rights Day

Since its inception in 1954, World Children’s Day has been celebrated on November 20 every year to promote respect and fundamental rights for children.

World Children’s Day is a unique opportunity to raise awareness of, promote and highlight the rights of the child. It is also the date to create concrete acts in favor of children all over the world. Every year there is a new theme, that of the year 2021 is; « A better future for every child ».

Declaration of the Rights of the Child

On November 20, 1959, the General Assembly of the United Nations published the first « Declaration of the Rights of the Child ». It recalls the commitments made by states around the world to children and contains 10 fundamental rights.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child

In 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was signed. It is the most ratified international human rights treaty. It defines a list of children’s rights, including the right to life, health, education. It also addresses the right to play, to have a family life, to be protected from violence and discrimination and to have one’s voice heard.

Every year on June 12, governments, employers, anonymous and members of civil society come together with labor organizations to fight against child labor.

World Children’s Day is a unique opportunity to raise public awareness of children’s rights, to promote them and highlight them. It is also the date to create concrete acts in favor of children all over the world. Every year there is a new theme, that of 2021 is « A better future for every child » …

Associations to support children at risk

The cause of childhood is a humanitarian issue that should be close to the hearts of everyone around the world. Whether in health, education or any other area such as their protection. or adoption. In France, there are many associations among which are UNESCO, « Les Bonnes Fées », « Petits Princes », « Handicap International, » Perce Neige « , » For a child’s smile « , » All at the school « , » Le C oeur des Clowns « or » La Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale « Some of them have an international scope.

We can see that celebrities have founded associations. Such are the cases of Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin, in South America and the USA, but also Global Gift Foundation, or Play International which brings together athletes.

Also in France, « Innocence en Danger » has just listed childhood on the stock market by launching the « Childhood Index Value ». Last month, he had supported the publication of a book.

Who is the Innocence in Danger association?

« Innocence in Danger » (IED) is a global movement to protect children against all forms of violence, especially sexual. In 2019, it attracted the attention of the business world. by publishing the « Demotivation Letter campaign » It evoked the physical and psychological impacts in the short, medium and long term, in particular, the sexual violence suffered in childhood.
This global movement was founded in 1999 by Homayra Sellier. Today, it is present in 9 countries (United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Colombia, France, United States, Belgium and Morocco). IED brings together activists, internet specialists, lawyers and experts. Every day, they sensitize the international community to the critical situation which is increasing worldwide.

Since 2002, IED has been initiating resilience stays to give surviving minors a second childhood in France. The association offers them various activity workshop programs (artistic, sporting or cultural …) led by professionals ( art therapists, psychologists, child psychiatrists, doctors and artists …). By 2023, IED plans to double the capacity to accommodate child victims and their protective parents. To get there, she needs 50,000 euros.

FDI commitments

IED works with victims through its legal team made up of around ten lawyers specializing in criminal and family law. She can be contacted through the following email address: [email protected]. The association is a civil party in several dozen cases, concerning several hundred children. The association assumes the total burden of business.

The association is also at the base of several prevention and information campaigns on the dangers of the Internet. Taken over by the gendarmerie and in several countries abroad, it has financed parental control software. We also note the « family circle », « Emoticons », « Like », « Smartphone » campaigns and the most recent, « Guilty Tags ». By posting in the Paris metro, she presented 9 stories inspired by real events and relayed on Instagram.
The latest initiative is the « Child Index Value » campaign, which brings Childhood to the stock market, the first value quoted negatively on entry (-142.7 billion euros).

The release of a book

In order to help the association support children, IED supported the publication of a book on October 15th. This work, by Audrey Larcade, « Mon corps pour une coupe » is the story of sexual violence against a minor in the equestrian environment. It is presented in the form of a diary, of a fight so that the victims are heard. Audrey’s story is a testimony to free the other victims.

Actions between April and November 2021

In France, 65% of perpetrators of rape of minors are under 24 years old. and 1 in 6 women, of whom 1/3 were under 15, did not consent.

On April 15, Yannick Billon presented a bill to the National Assembly. after the registration in the penal code of 4 new specific offenses ..

Despite this, many points remained unacceptable:

  • the « Romeo & Juliet clause on the 5-year age gap, concerning consent.
  • the notion of incest which limits the situations that can qualify as incest.
  • the definition of the age threshold for minors with disabilities, victims of sexual violence. There are four times the risk in this category; 88% of autistic women have experienced sexual violence before the age of 9., The age of 15 is therefore an aberration.
    Proposals were refused:
  • the establishment of a precautionary principle
  • the freedom for the medical profession to denounce violence
  • training of the teaching staff to detect a child in danger.

Among the recent actions, IED brought a civil action, as in 2015, following the indictment of Jean-Luc Lahaye for acts of rape and sexual assault on minors A lawyer from its legal committee Me N. Duquet will represent the victims.
The other important action is the presence of the association during the march against sexist and sexual violence. IED joined #WeToo (men also refuse the freedom to annoy) to march for the protection of women and children victims of violence (1 in 5 children are victims of sexual violence in Europe).

Child Index Value (C I V)

Violence against children costs 142.7 billion euros each year in Europe. Globally, they represent 8% of world GDP, or one trillion euros.
C I V has become an invaluable investment. The aim is to draw the financial world to child protection. The association launched this operation on November 20, International Children’s Rights Day.
« We wanted to launch the Childhood Index Value, an index of Childhood value in French, to draw the attention of the world of finance to the subject of child protection. We used stock market codes to challenge and convince : leaving childhood has an economic cost, and investing in it, a financial sense. There is no more inestimable value, value which has the most future. Everyone should « invest » in childhood , The world of finance too!  » (Homayra Sellier, President of Innocence En Danger)

As the 2022 presidential elections approach, it is essential to draw the attention of candidates to child protection. It is similar to that of women victims of domestic violence. Mothers do everything to prevent their children from becoming collateral victims or becoming victims themselves.
