Exhibition: « Napoleon » at the Grande Halle de la Villette

Napoleon Bonaparte, remains one of the greatest strategists of all time, by his innovative vision of the war.

On the occasion of the bicentenary of the death of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), the Grande Halle de la Villette presents more than 150 original works from the Fondation Napoléon and other prestigious cultural institutions. The spectacular course of the Emperor of the French is staged by weapons, statues, paintings, personal items and his various military campaigns.

Napoleon came from the gentry, which enabled him to learn the profession of arms at the Royal Military School in Brienne, then in Paris. As a young officer, he studied the political life and military tactics of the great warlords, of history and of his time. He is also interested in mathematics, geography, philosophy and the natural sciences.

Napoleon Bonaparte was proclaimed Emperor of the French by the Senate on May 18, 1804. His Coronation took place at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on December 2 of the same year. Napoleon crowns himself, thus evoking his power and the nature of a new regime.

The exhibition, through numerous Masterpieces, recalls the intimate life and monumental destiny of Napoleon I, a character with both heroic and tragic life. Napoleon Bonaparte, remains one of the greatest strategists of all time, by his innovative vision of the war.
