9th EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL PLAY GALA

Today after 9 years, we celebrate this day in more than 100 countries. The goal is to promote giving and philanthropy around the world. Thus, it bears the name of "Un Dia Para Dara" among Hispanics, "Tuesday, I give" in Quebec, "Mardi Généreux" in Russia or even "Dia De Doar" in Brazil. In France, a collective of organizations bringing together associations, foundations, companies and individuals. Yaël Aferiat and Fred Fournier launched “Giving Tuesday” in France for the first time in 2018. They wanted to promote the movement as widely as possible, by actively participating in the mobilization of all parties.

The 9th edition of the Gala Play International was held this year on November 30 at Paris-La Défense Arena. It was an opportunity to celebrate “Giving Tuesday” (Generosity Day).

What is “Giving Tuesday”?

Born in 2012, Giving Tuesday “is an initiative of the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact team at 92Y, a student residence located in Manhattan. This event, also called World Generosity and Solidarity Day, is celebrated on Tuesday following Thanksgiving (4th Thursday in November) This is considered to be a response to the business events of “Black Friday” and “Cyber ​​Monday.” This day is also a time to meet around the world , around a common objective, to make a donation, whether you are an association, a private or a company.

2020 figures despite the pandemic

Last year, despite the pandemic, “Giving Tuesday” recorded good results:

More than 180 actors have joined the movement.

The donations could be made in 5 forms.

Last year, on May 5, 2020, ‘Giving Tuesday’ launched ‘Giving Tuesday Now’ to strengthen actions following the Covid-19 crisis. This action served to thank and support all those who are fighting against the virus through actions and social networks It is together that we can overcome this unprecedented crisis.
By making a donation, helping neighbors, volunteering, fighting with an association or even giving blood, the main thing was to be united in one and the same global community.

Play International engaged for “Giving Tuesday”

As every year since 2012, Play International has organized a gala dinner. Organized for World Generosity Day, it brought together great champions, companies, donors and supporters committed to their side.

After a year of absence linked to the pandemic, the gala has changed location, wishing to be closer to the sport and the grounds. This is why he moved to Paris, La Défense Aréna. For the occasion, sports journalist Laurie Delhostal presented the evening.

On the entertainment side, the fencer, Olympic champion in Tokyo, Enzo Lefort, presented a series of silver photographs of his exhibition, “Behind the mask”. The magician and mentalist Larsène came to each table to practice his tricks. The evening was hosted by DJ RLP who made the guests dance. and a raffle reserved exceptional prizes.

Why this gala dinner?

Play International organizes a gala dinner every year to raise funds for the cause of childhood and education, a cause that is dear to it. Each table brings together 9 guests and 1 athlete. Thus, since 2012, nearly 200 champions, personalities and guests have raised alongside 130 companies, foundations and donors, more than half a million euros thanks to their contributions.

Thanks to this mobilization, 150,000 of the most vulnerable children have benefited from the development of the Playdagogy program around the world (France including Mayotte, Burundi, Kosovo or Senegal …) It is used to promote sport and education, while promoting better health on a daily basis.

For the 2021 edition, the theme was engagement and sport. For this, 180 top athletes and personalities were present.

This evening was a memorable moment to share with the athletes who did not fail to discuss their performances, anecdotes and their commitment as ambassador to the NGO.
