The EU meets at the Elysée to support Ukraine

This Monday, February 26, 2024, 21 international leaders will meet at the Élysée as part of a conference in support of Ukraine. The objective of providing military and financial aid to kyiv which is entering its third year of war with Moscow.

A summons from among the 27 members of the European Union was requested to participate in the meeting at the Elysée, in order to support Ukraine.

Emmanuel Macron decided to organize a meeting in support of Ukraine this Monday in Paris with leaders of other countries. It will bring together “several heads of state and government or their ministerial representatives, for a meeting in support of Ukraine”, indicated the French presidency, as reported by Élysée.

This Monday, February 26, 2024, 21 international leaders will meet at the Élysée as part of a conference in support of Ukraine. The objective of providing military and financial aid to kyiv which is entering its third year of war with Moscow.

Polish President Andrzej Duda announced on the Polsat channel that his French counterpart had invited “a whole series of European leaders to Paris to discuss new proposals for solutions and assistance for Ukraine” and that he would go there . Two years after the start of the invasion, Ukraine finds itself in an “extremely difficult” position on the front, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted.

These are Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Romania. Ministerial representatives from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Sweden will also be present at the event.

They made their appearance at the Elysée, each one invited among the delegates of the 21 States who announced their presence as:
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark, President of the Spanish Government Pedro Sánchez, Kaja Kallas, Estonian Prime Minister Kyriákos Mitsotákis, Greek Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, Prime Minister of Latvia , the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, Petr Fiala, the President of the Government of the Czech Republic, Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, the Romanian President Klaus John, American and Canadian representatives, as well as the head of British diplomacy David Cameron, … etc.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will not be present, due to the vote in the Hungarian parliament on Sweden’s membership in NATO.

Volodymyr Zelensky addresses participants

Ukraine’s victory “depends on you”, launched Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the twenty heads of state and government, mainly European, invited by Emmanuel Macron to the Élysée on Monday February 26 . “Together we have saved millions of lives. It is crucial that Putin does not wipe out our achievements and spread his aggression. I would like to express my gratitude for everything you do,” continues the Ukrainian head of state, invited to introduce the event with a videoconference speech.
