The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, under the presidency of Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch, takes place from May 16 to 27, 2023. Controversies

Long-awaited, this 76th edition passed off peacefully, with demonstrations on public roads having been banned by the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture for the duration of the festival. However, a petition of 123 actresses and actors published in a column of the newspaper “Liberation”, denounced “a system which supports the aggressors”, referring to Johnny Depp and his last trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. for domestic violence (“… By rolling out the red carpet to men and women who assault, the festival sends the message that in our country we can continue to exercise violence with impunity, that violence is acceptable in places of creation”). For her part, the director Maîwenn is being sued by the director of publication Edwy Plenel, who has instituted civil proceedings against the director who had physically attacked him a few days earlier in a Parisian restaurant. All this has not not prevent the 2 actors from appearing hand in hand on the red carpet.

This year, the stars followed one another on the “Red Carpet”. We noticed the return of the Americans with in particular Michael Douglas, who came with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and their daughter, to receive a special gold palm which rewards his entire career. In 50 years, he has shot 80 films and has already received 2 Césars.
