Colomiers crushes Mont de Marsan

The Columérins win against Mont-de-Marsan 53 to 20 at the Michel-Bendichou stadium.

Mont de Marsan lost to Colomiers (53-20) on the 21st day of Pro D2, a week after the defeat against Provence Rugby and after two victories during the last two away games.

Superior in all areas of the game, Julien Sarraute’s men are ideally back in the race for the top 6. For their part, the Montois, overwhelmed and too imprecise, suffer a second worrying setback.

We thought the Montois were cured after their two successes in Aurillac and Biarritz, here they are again with their heads under water. Even if the defeat against Provence Rugby last week was in line with the two previous victorious performances.

Colomiers showed its determination from the first seconds by scoring a try by Dulon, setting the tone for an evening largely controlled by its team. Colomiers stood out for its robust defense and exceptional offensive efficiency, giving it a significant advantage from the start of the match.

The Montois simply forgot to come out of the locker room at the start of the match. They conceded Dulon’s first try after only one minute of play (1st, 5-0). Despite Garrault’s try (13th, 8-5) which rewarded a good period for Montois. But Colomiers put the gears forward in the last ten minutes with its forwards, causing Waël Ponpon to be yellow-carded (31st) and scoring two converted tries by Caleb Timu (31st, 18-5) and Grégoire Bazin (36th, 25-5). At half-time, the Colomiers team was clearly ahead with a score of 25-5.

On the Stade Montois side, difficulties are being felt to fight effectively in a dominant position against its opponent. Willie Du Plessis’s game and decision-making problems are slowing down his team’s offensive performances.

In the second half, Mont de Marsan begins a semblance of a reaction with Edwards’ quick try (43rd, 25-10). But Colomiers reacts immediately through Whetton (46th, 32-10). Identical situation a few minutes later when Canut scores the third Landes try (48th, 32-15) and Dimcheff responds immediately (54th, 39-15) just after the yellow card against Luka Goginava (54th). Same thing after the hour mark when Dimcheff scores a double from a 40-meter run (67th, 46-20) in the wake of Robic’s try (65th, 39-20). Despite a disallowed try by Pinto (71st), Colomiers snatched the offensive bonus point with a seventh try before the siren by Béchu (80th, 53-20).

Stéphane Prosper did not hide his disappointment

I think we started the match in a very apathetic way. The first five sequences were negative and we did not exist.

It is a match that does not correspond to what we had prepared. I am very angry with the players. It is the 23 players of the evening who did not respond in commitment and determination, in a match that could have allowed us to return to the top of the championship.

The planned game plan and the team lined up tonight, we were supposed to wage war and offer combat. But we did not respond in this area. I think that in the match, we lost 13 balls, notably on collisions or in the ruck zones. Against this team, if you don’t win the ruck war, it quickly becomes complicated.

10 situations in the 22 meters on which you only score 4 times, where Colomiers is much more effective. It’s a team that we had identified as very good defensively and on turnovers. And it’s in these areas that they were good tonight. And we were punished. It’s a nice punishment.

Here, we are in a situation where all the points count. It’s a championship that is very tight, very tough. Before the match, everything was still possible, we could get closer to the top of the table as well as the bottom. That’s why I’m angry, because we conceded fifty points in a crucial match in our season.

« I’m very angry with the players », says Stéphane Prosper indignantly.
