Cannes Film Festival 2025: The Yellow Vests on the Croisette, Invited by Dominik Moll in « Dossier 137 »

Dominik Moll and the film "Dossier 137" arrive on the Croisette with the Yellow Vests.

The film « Dossier 137, » starring Léa Drucker, was presented this Thursday, May 15, 2025, and a host of stars graced the red carpet.

On the program for this third day: the red carpet of « Dossier 137, » by Dominik Moll, starring Léa Drucker as a member of the IGPN (National Police Inspectorate of National Police) tasked with investigating the case of a young man injured by police gunfire during a Yellow Vest protest.

On the red carpet, the glamour and sequins of silk dresses rustle under the photographers’ flashbulbs; in the darkened rooms, the world and its torments unfold in the darkness.

On the red carpet, the film’s cast gathered to present their work to festival-goers, and they weren’t the only ones walking the famous steps of the Cannes Film Festival. Following in Léa Drucker’s footsteps were several major figures in French cinema: Mélanie Laurent, Joséphine Japy, Iris Mittenaere, Diane Kruger, Cécile de France, Mylène Farmer, and Andie MacDowell, among others.

« Dossier 137 » stars Léa Drucker as an IGPN officer who must investigate a protest gone wrong. A young man is injured by a shot from a LBD, and she must establish responsibility, but an unexpected event disrupts her investigation.

The film is more about denouncing an unorthodox practice used by law enforcement in 2018, in response to the Yellow Vest protests. The dishonest actions of officers at the end of a nervous breakdown due to fatigue, a lack of information without real mission orders.

Dominik Moll uses highly nuanced language, managing to challenge us and make us confront our own position. It must be admitted that, faced with certain facts, empathy can play tricks on us. This perspective is a mirage, but it must be acknowledged that the film persists in a not-uninteresting impasse, which consists of considering the progressive neutralization of point of view as the guarantee of a sufficiently nuanced picture.

Stéphanie searches for the various surveillance cameras located near the Champs-Élysées to piece together the puzzle, Moll superimposes her face onto a map of the city. One might think it’s a cliché from a police film or the depiction of a sprawling situation, when in reality, the editing is taken literally.

The cast of Dossier 137 includes Léa Drucker, Guslagie Malanda, Dorothée Martinet, and Théo Navarro-Mussy. Some may have noticed that the latter was not present at Cannes to present the film. He was ousted from the festival due to the cases against him, and is accused by three former partners of sexist and sexual violence. The legal complaints were dismissed, according to BFM, but the three plaintiffs have stated that they intend to file a civil suit.

In an interview with our colleagues at Télérama, the actor expressed his « concern » about the consequences of this exclusion on his career and hopes « that the dismissal of this complaint will be taken into account. » He recalled that he had been « cleared » by the courts « at this stage » and stated that he had made the decision not to attend even before his official dismissal, explaining that he did not want this affair « to harm Dossier 137, a collective work. »
