Cannes Film Festival 2025: Red Carpet with « SIRÂT, » the third film in competition, tells the story of the tragedy

Every year at the Cannes Film Festival, several films in the selection cause a stir thanks to their subject matter or tone. This year, films like « SIRÂT » and « Dossier 137 » are on the competition poster today, Wednesday, May 15th.

The team of the film « SirÂt » shows its support for Palestine on the Festival’s red carpet.

Oliver Laxe mainly used amateur actors, with two professional actors, Bruno Nunes, seen in the series La Mesias, and the excellent Sergi Lopez.
« I work a lot with aspiring actors who don’t have any experience. Because they resemble me, and they’re real and innocent when it comes to cinematic codes. I like that, » says director Oliver Laxe.

The talented Franco-Spanish director Oliver Laxe, born in Paris and produced by the Almodóvar brothers, promises to be hypnotic, with the always sublime imagery of Swiss cinematographer Mauro Herce. It’s one of the most intriguing projects in competition for the Palme d’Or at this 78th Cannes Film Festival.

The director draws the viewer into a constant state of uncertainty punctuated by breathtaking suspense. Before each brutal scene, sinister music anticipates the drama. During this adventure, which turned out to be macabre, several dramatic events occurred along the way.

A father and son timidly enter the party in search of their missing daughter and sister. No one predicted such a poignant and terrifying sequel! Luis, accompanied by his son Estéban, searches for his daughter Mar, who has been missing for several months, during one of those endless parties in the heart of the mountains of southern Morocco. They plunge into the burning immensity of a mirror of sand that confronts them with their own limits.

Director Olivier Laxe says: « I like it when the audience forms their own ideas about my film, » he says.
