In the name of oneself

Bouchta, is the son of an Algerian immigrant. He was born in Marseille and grew up in one of his first housing estates. He is the eleventh of a family of twelve children. Bouchta simply feels apart. This difference “in Islam is a disease.” In her family, she does not exist. In the name of tradition, he must get married. He will be against his will. For 1h15, he testifies with self-mockery, humility, subtlety and humor, on the suffering that was his in his quest for identity. Far from being a standard bearer, Bouchta wants to send a message. Speaking of immigration, integration, homophobia, the weight of customs, social discrimination, in a fictitious exchange with his mother, he opens the reflection on the place of man and in particular on the freedom that he has to be able to assume himself as he is and to be himself.

“Be a man, my son”, only one on stage by and with Bouchta, a touching raw talent, genuine and very promising to discover who is reminiscent of a certain Elie Kakou. A very current show full of common sense, which raises awareness and challenges as much as it makes people laugh, in a minimalist staging by Richard Martin whose main accessory is a trunk, but, what a pain!
