The 2024 edition of the Lantern Festival is for the 6th time an unmissable and immersive walk at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, during the end-of-year celebrations. Its theme is « the world of the Minuscule », after the seabed and the world of dinosaurs, in previous years. In a unique journey to the heart of the Jurassic, we discover immense animated and illuminated sculptures immersed in paleoenvironments sheltering marine reptiles and the first birds, far from T-rexes and Triceratops.
This immersive journey highlights species of marine reptiles, terrestrial and flying dinosaurs reconstructed in real size as well as the first mammals. We discover the different aspects of the fauna and flora through the different periods of the Jurassic, from the Lower Jurassic and its deep seas where plesiosaurs or ichthyosaurs live to the wooded valley populated with ferns and cycads, passing through a tropical lagoon, to end in a Cretaceous swamp where large dinosaurs and small mammals coexist.
The Jurassic period extends between 201 and 145 million years ago. It was at this time that Pange, a supercontinent that brought together almost all the submerged lands, began its fragmentation by moving the continents away from each other, favoring the opening of sea routes and allowing marine organisms to disperse across the globe. Pterosaurs dominated the skies and the first birds appeared, plants and mammals then experienced a great diversification.
This night walk with family or friends takes visitors to meet immense luminous structures through the gardens and paths of the Jardin des Plantes.
