The Yves Saint Laurent Museum exhibits around forty models by the famous couturier Yves Saint Laurent. Throughout his career, the brilliant couturier unveiled feminine beauty through his work. It reinterprets the codes of permanent forms and draws a vertical silhouette. It dresses the woman’s body so that the fabric follows its movements by evoking a « casual chic » that makes elegance with simple and fluid lines.
The couturier’s first creations are short, straight dresses in the image of the elegant modern woman of the years 1965 and 1966. The shades are assembled in twos or threes in a color contrast. The materials are plain and smooth like jersey. The shape is given by the cut, the color or the line. Yves Saint Laurent had during his first collection at Christian Dior in 1958, affirmed the importance of form. A large majority of the models in the collection were made from the trapeze.
Yves Saint Laurent likes women to look like drawings, that’s why women are often in black. Black and white to draw the shape are part of the designer’s creative universe. For the evening, black is his favorite shade which he uses as a means of expression, purity and simplicity.
The decorations of the exhibition are the realization of Claudia Wieser who has participated in exhibitions all over the world. She builds pure lines with games of contrast that lend themselves particularly to dialogue. The artist gives free rein to his imagination to create works that resonate with the designer’s outfits and accessories. In this decor, each element occupies a defined place.
