As the well-known saying goes, « It takes only one aggressor to start a war; it takes two to make peace. »
But what about the Trojan War?
Édouard Dossetto has skillfully directed The Trojan War Will Not Take Place.
Written in 1935 by Jean Giraudoux and transposed into the 21st century, this play proves strikingly relevant today, reflecting tensions between the United States and Iran as well as the threat of a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
This great classic may remind you of your high school years. Remember… Helen and her lovers, Menelaus the wronged husband, the Trojans, Paris the prince who abducts Helen, Hector the valiant hero, and Ulysses the Greek negotiator.
The protagonists are gathered in Troy for a crisis meeting in response to this outrageous abduction — a true casus belli.
From the very beginning of the performance, the dramatic tension is intense. Everyone awaits the negotiator: Ulysses…
Portrayed with precision and passion by the director himself, Ulysses appears in a modern suit and tie, speaking on an old-fashioned telephone handset, while the actors’ performances are punctuated by video projections.
This moving production, infused with biting humor, is particularly successful.
It will take you back to your younger years.
