On December 13, as Christmas approaches, the Candeloro Show Company presented its brand-new show “The Sandman’s Daughter” at the ice rink of the Palais des Sports Robert Charpentier in Issy-les-Moulineaux.
Created by choreographer and artistic director Olivia Darmon-Candeloro, the show is presented by her husband Philippe Candeloro, the famous figure skater, bronze medalist at the Winter Olympic Games, world vice-champion, who later became a professional skater, sports consultant, TV and radio host and commentator.
This Christmas tale on ice, blending figure skating and dance, takes audiences into the heart of a magical universe where dreams come to life, sometimes punctuated by nightmares.
Combining dreams, magic and performance on ice within wonderful landscapes enhanced by captivating lighting effects, the show immerses the audience in an enchanting, dreamlike world… right up to the appearance of Santa Claus.
It brings together around thirty talented artists, dressed in luminous costumes, performing spectacular acrobatics within sumptuous sets.
Maya Candeloro, in the leading role of Étoile, gracefully and emotionally embodies the Sandman’s daughter.
She carries on her father’s mission: to protect the dreams of children from all corners of the world. With her magical cape and bag of sand, she must confront darkness and prove that love can triumph over everything.
The Sandman… these words resonate with all French people…
Nounours, Nicolas, Pimprenelle… and the Sandman.
The mythical characters from the TV show “Bonne nuit les petits”, broadcast daily before the 8 p.m. news and first aired in 1962 on RTF Télévision, the predecessor of ORTF.
But what is the story of the Sandman, exactly?
The Sandman was a legendary character inherited from the Sandmann of Germanic and Scandinavian cultures, who put children to sleep by sprinkling sand into their eyes.
The expression “the Sandman has been here” became common… in the evening, children’s eyes sting from fatigue, they rub them, then sleep and dreams follow.
“The Sandman’s Daughter”, a show suitable for all audiences, from the youngest to the oldest, will travel across France: on December 2 in Troyes, December 20 in Beauvais, December 23 in Méribel… delighting young and old alike, carried away on incredible adventures.
