THAILAND, LAOS AND CAMBODIA HONORED AT THE SABAY FESTIVAL

For its second edition, the Sabay Festival was held free of charge at the Pagode du Bois de Vincennes (75012) on April 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first opus had welcomed nearly 11,000 people last year.

The event, open to all, made it possible to celebrate the Cambodian New Year in a festive and friendly atmosphere, and to honor the cultures of Laos and Thailand. For the occasion, shows, concerts, folklore, street food, boxing demonstrations, and an exhibition of retro posters from the 50s and 70s to discover the golden age of Cambodia, were on the program.

How the day went

A Buddhist ceremony at the foot of the largest Buddha in Europe began the day. It was an opportunity to meditate and obtain a Buddhist bracelet, a traditional bangle blessed by the monks at the exit of the temples, in order to bring good luck to its holder.

The participants were then able to go to the many street food stands to taste Khmer, Laotian and Thai specialties, while enjoying entertainment and traditional Khmer games.
Craftsmanship and its rich heritage of Cambodia were offered in the Evaan Market pop-up. In order to support the associations, it was possible to meet them and make a donation.
At the end of the day, a DJ set the dance floor on fire.

Detailed program of the day

10-11 a.m.: Opening of the Festival, Buddhist ceremony followed by blessings all day
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Boran atmosphere with the traditional Khmer youth orchestra
12-1 p.m.: Folk dance by the children of the Chao troupe; Dance of wishes (Chun Po) by Lou Bensimon, Traditional Thai, Laotian, Hmong and Khmer dances by the association Hlub Cim Xeeb (HCX)
1-1:15 p.m.: Demonstration of Kun Khmer boxing, a thousand-year-old martial art, by Mantis Boxing
1:15-1:40 p.m.: Parade of traditional Khmer outfits in collaboration with Vannyda Couture
2-2:45 p.m.: Traditional games led by the Pouma Khmer association
3-4 p.m.: Popular Khmer concert with Sovandara, July? KIM AND ELYNE LAM
4-4:30 p.m.: Results of contests and raffle by Miss Cambodia in France
4:30-6:00 p.m.: Sabay Party, DJ set by DJ Khmer and DJ Deth: best of Asian and Khmer hip-hop

Throughout the day: Street Food; Sak Yant Tattoo by Hiek Tatoo; Sale of handicrafts at Evaan Market; Live Painting by street painter Kellymiti; Workshops and entertainment for children by Pouma Khmer; Associative forum and exhibition on the Cambodian golden age of the 50s and 70s.

A contest game

On the occasion of the Khmer New Year, a competition was organized to learn all the secrets of Asian cuisine. The lot was a gift voucher worth €150 for a cooking class to be done as a duo Mama Ly @chez_mama_ly

2. Comment by tagging the person with whom you want to participate
3. Complete the form on the site

The draw took place on April 30 at 4 p.m. and the name of the winner was revealed on stage on the day of the Sabay Festival by Mama Ly and Miss Cambodia 2023 in France and shared on the Instagram account of @sabaydara and @chez-mama-ly .
