TO XIII vs Wakefield at the Stade Ernest Wallon, Saturday 20th July, 32-4.
Round 16 of the Rugby League Championship is over and it was a very eventful week with leaders Wakefield Trinity finally losing their first game in the competition after last year’s relegation from the Super League.
Wakefield Trinity tasted defeat for the first time in the Championship after being beaten 32-4 at Toulouse.
French side TO ended Trin’s exceptional 15-game winning streak in the Championship at the start of the 2024 campaign in spectacular fashion on Saturday night.
And although Wakefield rallied after the restart with Derrell Olpherts scoring his 11th try in six games, Toulouse added two more tries, courtesy of Reuben Rennie and Ulberg’s double, to seal a deserved victory.
Wakefield Trinity continue to lead the league table with a seven-point lead over weekend rivals Toulouse. The French side won 32-4 thanks to a first-half hat-trick from England full-back Olly Ashall-Bott.
Toulouse’s win takes them into second place in the table, seven points behind the leaders. However, Wakefield’s lead at the top of the table could be reduced to six points if Sheffield Eagles beat Barrow Raiders later today (Sunday).
Results of the 16th day of the championship:
– Toulouse Olympique 32-4 Wakefield Trinity
– Featherstone Rovers 12-24 Doncaster RLFC
– Bradford Bulls 36-28 York Knights
– Batley Bulldogs 29-22 Dewsbury Rams
– Barrow Raiders 8-6 Sheffield Eagles
