Roland – Garros 2023: Ladies’ doubles final, match won by Su-Wei Hsieh and Xinyu Wang

Just before the Men's final at Roland-Garros, the Ladies' doubles final took place at the Philippe-Chatrier.

Impressive so far, the Canadian Leylah Fernandez and the American Taylor Townsend (n°10) were stripped of the title by Su-Wei Hsieh and Xinyu Wang.

In the final, Hsieh was the only one with Grand Slam crowning experience in women’s doubles. Perhaps the advantage that made the difference. Victorious 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-1, the Sino-Taiwanese duo came within two points of defeat before finally pulling off the tie-break and turning the tide.

Hsieh Su-wei, 37, from Taiwan, won her fifth Grand Slam tournament and her second Roland-Garros. His partner, the Chinese Wang Xinyu, triumphs for the first time in a tournament of this magnitude, at 21 years old.

Doubles specialist, Hsieh has already won Roland Garros in 2014 and Wimbledon three times (2013, 2019 and 2021). His last triumph in London was alongside Elise Mertens.

Fernandez and Townsend have tried to savor a first major title among seniors, after having shone in juniors. The Canadian won Roland-Garros in 2019 and the 27-year-old American triumphed at the Australian Open in 2012.

Then in the pros, Fernandez was a runner-up at the 2021 US Open, while Townsend made the women’s doubles final last year in New York.

Leylah was sure to save the Maple Leaf honor in the French capital too, as Bianca Andreescu lost in the mixed doubles final on Thursday and Ontarian Robert Shaw lost in the ultimate wheelchair double quad match. rolling on Saturday.
