The new family comedy Marsupilami, directed by French filmmaker Philippe Lacheau, premiered on February 1st in Paris at the Grand Rex, one of the city’s most iconic and historic cinemas. The event marked the first public screening of the film, inspired by the legendary comic character created by Belgian artist André Franquin in 1952.
The Paris premiere brought together several well-known figures from French cinema. Director Philippe Lacheau attended the event alongside actors Élodie Fontan, Tarek Boudali, Reem Kherici, Julien Arruti, Jérémy Ferrari and Alban Ivanov. Comedian Jamel Debbouze, who previously appeared in an earlier Marsupilami film adaptation, was also present.
This new production is not a sequel to the 2012 film On the Trail of the Marsupilami, but a standalone adaptation designed for a new generation of viewers. The story follows Bibi, a baby Marsupilami illegally transported from his jungle aboard a cruise ship, where his accidental hatching quickly turns the journey into chaos.
Combining physical comedy with digital visual effects, the film relies on an expressive CGI Marsupilami while maintaining a light-hearted, family-friendly tone. Director Philippe Lacheau has emphasized his intention to create a film suitable for all audiences, avoiding crude humor in favor of playful and universal comedy.
At this stage, Marsupilami is officially scheduled for release only in France, with a theatrical release set for February 4, 2026. No European or international release dates have been announced so far.
