The Palais Galliera, Museum dedicated to Fashion, presents a first retrospective on the professional career of fashion designer Gabrielle Chanel (1883-1971). The exhibition presents the keys to the success of the seamstress who, through the consistency between materials and shapes, the harmony of proportions and the expression of her unique sense of the line, have contributed to participate in the history of fashion.
Mademoiselle Chanel, in her vision of the modern woman, made the suit a representative piece of her collection. It thus gives a simple version of dressed and refined fashion. Haute Couture is for Gabrielle Chanel a field of experimentation. She revisits the look and renews it with dresses fitted to the body. In its search for simplicity, whether plain, printed or embroidered, its range of fabrics ranges from Muslin for its lightness, Tulle for its flexibility, to Lace and Velvet with the most diverse synthetic materials. She makes the Evening Dress and Cocktail an exercise in style. The range of colors is one of her signatures, she chooses White or Gold which combine, Red which brings spice and Black for chic.
The accessory is an essential element of allure for Gabrielle Chanel, “the Bag” is identifiable by its shape, its topstitching and its chain strap that can be carried in the hand or on the shoulder. As for the harmony of the silhouette, the “Two-tone Shoe” to lengthen the leg, adds an additional note to the elegance set by Chanel. The most subtle of fashion accessories is the famous perfume, “Chanel n ° 5” created in Grasse with Ernest Beaux, a staple in a long line of Chanel perfumes.
The Jewel also holds an essential place in the creations of Chanel and becomes a real marker of its style. It praises the “Adornment” by accumulating Chokers, Rands of Pearls, Earrings, Brooches and Bracelets. Mingling with Jewelry and Fashion Jewelry, between excess and sobriety, they are composed from symbolic, historical or exotic inspirations.
Coco Chanel, who became a legend during her lifetime, has woven contradictory biographical accounts about her life throughout her career. Many writings have sparked controversy in attempting to shed light on the origins of this brilliant personality.
In a style and a timeless universe, the Palais Galliera, makes the visitor discover an exhibition on the great periods of Gabrielle Chanel’s fashion, through a collection of more than 350 pieces divided into ten chapters.
Extension of the exhibition until July 18, 20201, online reservation required.
