French President Emmanuel Macron has invited leaders from around a hundred countries to meet in Paris until 11 February for the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence.
On the sidelines of the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Kyriakos MITSOTAKIS, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, on Monday at the Elysée Palace.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron called for a common strategy to manage AI, the rapid implementation of an ambitious European roadmap on AI, focused on investment, innovation and competitiveness.
Following on from the joint statement on artificial intelligence and the governance of global issues, Emmanuel Macron and Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed the will of France and Greece and the European strategy on artificial intelligence. They expressed their full confidence in the European Union’s ability to establish itself as a privileged space for the development of a competitive, attractive and sovereign AI ecosystem.
President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also discussed the urgency of accelerating the implementation of the European competitiveness agenda following the Draghi report and the EU Competitiveness Compass, in particular the issues of regulatory simplification, decarbonisation and industrial production, reduction of strategic dependencies and fair competition, as well as the development of public and private investment in support of climate and digital transitions.
Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed to the Greek Prime Minister France’s commitment to the Franco-Hellenic strategic partnership and to Greece’s security.
The two leaders discussed, in the first row, the unconditional support for Ukraine in the face of the Russian war of aggression and the situation in the Middle East.
Since February 6, Paris has hosted more than 100 events organized on the sidelines of the summit for a week aimed at strengthening international action in favor of AI serving the general interest: scientific days, a cultural weekend, numerous side events, a day for businesses.
The United States, China, India and Europe will be represented by leading figures from politics and business, including US Vice President J.D. Vance, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The presence of Sam Altman, head of OpenAI, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, underlines the strategic importance of the summit.
This summit is therefore not only a diplomatic event, but also a forum for tech companies, where French start-ups will rub shoulders with global AI giants. The objective is clear: to show that France and Europe are capable of positioning themselves at the same level as these powers in terms of AI, and that they are ready to play a central role in the global governance of this technology.
According to the Elysée, during this AI week, France will welcome thousands of industry players from nearly 100 countries and regions, including 1,500 participants in the international summit organized at the Grand Palais.
In total, the 109 billion is broken down between the investment of the United Arab Emirates in a giant data center (50 billion), the 20 billion euros of the Canadian fund Brookfield Asset Management, an investment of 10 billion euros made by the British company Fluidstack to deploy in France the largest supercomputer in the world for AI, and nine other private investments, detailed the Elysée.
