At the end of the first council of ministers of this government team, this Wednesday, October 17, ministers and secretaries of state have posed on the steps of the perron of the Elysee.
The wait ended on Tuesday morning: after two weeks of discussions, the Elysee announced on Tuesday, the new government team reworked, supposed to bring a “second wind” to the five-year of Emmanuel Macron, after a summer and a back home chaotic. In total, the government has eight entrants with also the arrivals of four secretaries of state. It is “a renewed team, with a second wind, but whose political mandate remains the same,” commented the Elysee.
The government will, in the coming months, show more flexibility with regard to the 16 million retirees. The question of converting the current 42 pension schemes into a universal scheme also needs to be resolved.
Christophe Castaner, becomes Minister of the Interior to replace Gerard Collomb, resigned. He will be assisted by Laurent Nuñez, appointed Secretary of State. Laurent Nuñez is the current boss of the internal intelligence services, the DGSI. During the transfer of power with Edouard Philippe, who was acting in this position, the prime minister felt that Castaner was “perfectly equipped to face this mission”.
Didier Guillaume, becomes Minister of Agriculture to replace Stéphane Travert, who leaves the government. During the transfer of power, Didier Guillaume assured that he was going to be a “tireless activist, defender and promoter of agriculture”.
Franck Riester replaces Françoise Nyssen at the Ministry of Culture.
Christelle Dubos becomes Secretary of State to Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Solidarities and Health.
Gabriel Attal becomes Secretary of State to the Minister of National Education.
Marc Fesneau is now in charge of Relations with Parliament, replacing Christophe Castaner.
Jacqueline Gourault, who was Secretary of State to the Minister of the Interior, becomes Minister in charge of Cohesion of the Territories, replacing Jacques Mézard. At the head of a large ministry, she is assisted by Sébastien Lecornu, appointed minister to her in charge of local authorities, and Julien Denormandie, minister in charge of the city and housing.
Emmanuelle Wargon is appointed Secretary of State to the Minister of Ecological and Solidarity Transition to replace Sébastien Lecornu.
Agnès Pannier-Runacher is also appointed Secretary of State to the Minister of Economy and Finance.
Mounir Mahjoubi, former Secretary of State to the Prime Minister in charge of Digital, comes under the tutelage of Bruno Le Maire and Gérald Darmanin in Bercy.
Marlène Schiappa is now in charge, as Secretary of State, the fight against discrimination.

Emmanuel Macron assured Tuesday that there will be “no turning point or change of course” of its policy and that his “will to action” will be “even stronger” after the government reshuffle.
