Emmanuel Macron defended this Wednesday, February 27 the discussed use of the launchers of balls of defense (LBD) by the police. He again denounced the breakers of “Saturday afternoon « , after the call of the Council of Europe to suspend the use of the LBD in the name of the human rights.
The Council of Europe invited Tuesday “to suspend the use” of the launchers of balls of defense (LBD) in the operations of maintenance of law and order in France for “better respecting the human rights”. They were used at the time of the manifestations of the “yellow waistcoats”.
Emmanuel Macron made a point of relativizing the decisions to come from the executive on this subject: “It will be up to the Home Secretary point by point to answer on the recommendations who are done”, the Head of the State at the time of a common press conference with Angela Merkel declared.
The Head of the State then insisted on the current framing of the use of these weapons. “There already was a policy of very great limitation and transparency of this equipment”, he specified, before evoking the cameras “installation to make sure of a good use of the follow–up”.
To close the subject, the Head of the State drew aside any withdrawal of the means of defense of the police officers. “I say it very simply, I will leave the police without any means, neither to ensure the public order, nor to defend oneself vis–a–vis people who arrive today armed and with the worst intentions”, he hammered.
Emmanuel Macron firmly supported his last declarations in connection with the violences made at the time of the demonstrations and their participants, estimating that “the best manner of avoiding these uses (…) is to avoid having people who consider than every Saturday afternoon is made to break windows, institutions or to tackle the police”.
Dunja Mijatovic, in particular recommends not to introduce an administrative prohibition to express, “a serious interference in the exercise of this right”, but also to give up “setting up in offence the voluntary dissimulation ‘without legitimate reason‘ for whole or part of the face to the centre or the immediate surroundings of a demonstration”.
The Council of Europe invited Tuesday, February 26 France “to suspend the use of the LBD within the framework of the operations of maintenance of law and order”. Today the Head of the State “I will not leave the police without any means (…), is it only means of defense of the police officers, (…) vis–a–vis people who arrive armed.”
