43rd CIRCUS OF TOMORROW FESTIVAL

The World Circus Festival of Tomorrow is an essential reference for all those who love this living art and wish to pass it on.

Every year since 1977, the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain presents an exceptional show bringing together dozens of acrobats, tightrope walkers, a few clowns, jugglers and trapeze artists. Based in Pelouse de Reuilly in Paris (75012), this show brings together young circus artists from all over the world who are performing for the first time.

At that time, Isabelle and Dominique Mauclair, passionate about circus arts, decided to present their art in front of an international jury.

Directed today by Alain M. Pacherie, the World Circus Festival of Tomorrow is an essential reference for all those who love this living art and wish to transmit it. At the start of each year, we find artists, former winners, producers, broadcasters and fans of the ring under the Cirque Phénix big top. Coming from all over the world, they share the most beautiful moments of the new circus season.

Young participants

The age limit for participation is 25 years, which corresponds to the choice of the founder who wanted to stand out from the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival and take on the promotion of young artists selected from spontaneous applications and meetings during trips to the 4 corners of the world, during different festivals but also by attending several dozen shows each year where 24 winners are chosen from numerous proposals from all nations.
In order to select the candidates, the jury, present since the first edition, has rating sheets from which it evaluates and scores the acts according to technical, artistic and presentation criteria, particularly with regard to the relationship with the public.

Horses since 1991

Numbers with animals are not present. However, the Festival welcomed trainers into the competition. Previously based under the big top of the Alexis Gruss National Circus, the festival returned to the Cirque d’Hiver which could only accommodate a few rare animals. In 1991, thanks to the help and collaboration of Cirque Bruneau, the first “Trainer Competition of the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain” was created.
It was an opportunity to present a selection of young artists surrounded by Festival winners. This is how the Massy Circus Festival was born. Today, dressage has given way to human creativity although it is difficult to compare the different disciplines. We also note that there are only a few clowns, their training requiring regular training and support.

Classic numbers

The Festival du Cirque Mondial de Demain employs paid artists. Their salary corresponds to the number of days of work worked and based on the minimum wage. This system allows artists to come to Paris.

We see the presence of classic numbers because the artists can master them perfectly. This is a catalyst for their career. The Festival is the focal point of circus arts, bringing together actors and performers for a weekend. For some, it’s the first time while for others, it’s a step in a journey started a few months or years ago. Today, the Festival tries to welcome, within its possibilities, new artists whose work has not been seen much. We note the omnipresence of the balance, the trapezoid, the manipulation, the straps, the Russian frame, the Korean board, the flexible or taut wire, the hand to hand or the Cyr wheel. The majority of disciplines are chosen by students in schools but also by self-taught artists. The Festival reflects the diversity of styles and forms based on what is being created today. We will nevertheless notice that there are no longer large troops following the collapse of the Soviet bloc which no longer supply the large troops. There are almost no troops of more than 12 people across the planet, except in China or Cuba where we can still find collectives of more than 4 people.
