President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris this Wednesday morning, without an audience.
The ceremonies commemorating the Armistice of 1918, shaken up by the health crisis, took place in select committees throughout France.
This Wednesday morning, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron paid the traditional tribute on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but this time without an audience, a health crisis requires.
Containment obliges, the first ceremony of this memorial day took place in a small committee at 11 a.m., with the commemoration of the 102nd anniversary of the Armistice of 1918, which is also the centenary of the burial of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc. de Triomphe. Emmanuel Macron was welcomed by Prime Minister Jean Castex, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General François Lecointre, Minister of the Armies Florence Parly and Minister Delegate Geneviève Darrieussecq.
During this ceremony, the names of the 19 French soldiers who have died for a year were recalled. On November 11, 1920, the coffin of the Unknown Soldier, whose remains remain unidentified, was received with great pomp under the Arc, where it will be buried two months later. Since November 11, 1923, the flame of his tomb has been rekindled every evening.
