78th edition of the Avignon Off Festival

From July 3 to 21, 2024, the Off Festival will re-enchant the City of the Popes.

This year, more than 1,600 shows for more than 130 theaters, a particularly rich offer that allows you to discover all the facets of live performance, from theater to dance, including music, puppets, circus arts.

There are also plays for young audiences, full of inventiveness, arousing children’s curiosity as well as their creativity, while allowing them to open up to the world.

We think of “The Color of Emotions”, a show mixing clown and kamishibai based on the best-selling book by Anna Llenas to discover emotions.

We can also mention “The Story of a Snail Who Discovered the Importance of Slowness”, based on the work of Luis Sepulveda, a tale for which directors Charlotte Gosselin and Sélim Alik use puppets and shadow theater.

Emotion, complicity, love, always, humor and great quality of acting by the actors in sensitive productions for an audience particularly curious about all forms of creation.

The Off is a talent revealer and a gigantic market for theater directors, school, departmental or regional institutions, both for France and for French-speaking countries and French institutions abroad.

Festival programmers from all over the world, whether they are from Korea, Morocco, Turkey, Canada, Hungary, Luxembourg, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Burkina Faso … come to find the shows that they will export to their country for a local French-speaking community.

Foreign companies are also present in the Off. Each year more numerous, there are 136 to have made the trip in 2024. Among them, Taiwan, a loyal partner since 2007, which is offering four creations.

Despite a drop in attendance due to the early elections and the upcoming Paris Olympics, the magic works, again and again, and throughout the day, the streets of the city resound with music, sketches, songs, strange noises, are the scene of ephemeral stagings, improvised tableaux, unexpected happenings or spontaneous solos, see, from one square or crossroads to another, colorful characters, masked or costumed, with loud or silent words, sometimes installed in unusual vehicles …
… It is the actors who are towing.

Valiantly, they tow and tow again, presenting their show in a playful and humorous way. Come see the actors, see the musicians, see the magicians who are coming…
