TV broadcast

From 1 p.m., the Overseas department of France Télévision, partner of the Carnaval Tropical de Paris, made an appointment with viewers.

An emblematic Guyano-Caribbean event, the tropical carnival festivities span almost 2 months and attract thousands of devotees between street parades, carnival evenings, concerts and large parades.

Process of the parade

This year’s parade was held after a tense night in the capital, on the Champs Elysées. It was opened by the King and Queen 2023, Grégoire Ladamus and Annaëlle Zonzon.

The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, cut the ribbon to launch the event she fought for, as did her team led by her overseas adviser, Jacques Martial. Result: 34 teams, including 3 from Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyana, were present on the Champs Elysées last weekend. They took part in a competition in front of the grandstand to be judged the best performances. The results will be revealed next week.

In addition, it was noted that fewer children were present in this parade, compared to previous years, for reasons of security. However, the Malaka Sister’s group, chaired by Guadeloupean choreographer Angel Croump, included children, the youngest of whom, Zenaya, was 3 years old.

A successful parade despite the difficulties

This 21st edition was a success, the weather was good and the spectators appreciated the colorful parade and the good mood, despite the difficulties encountered in the preparation. Indeed, according to the president of Union Kreyol, Grégory Printemps, there is no possibility of rehearsing because of the events in the Paris suburbs. As a result, the number of dancers and musicians was not complete but reached more than 80 representatives.

A first this year

For the first time this year, a group made up of about thirty nationals from Cayenne, Turbulen’s came to represent Guyana at the tropical carnival in Paris. He should also participate in the Sarcelles Carnival on July 9 with Union Kreyol.
