On Sunday afternoon at Ernest-Wallon Stadium, Toulouse Olympique (TO) pulled off an incredible comeback against Bradford Bulls, winning 24-20 and securing their third consecutive Championship final.
A tough first half for Toulouse
Bradford Bulls dominated the first half, leading 16-0 at halftime. At that point, the TO’s chances of reaching the final looked slim.
TO takes control in the second half
Toulouse’s playmaker Jake Shorrocks energized his team after the break. His pass to Olly Ashall-Bott allowed the TO to score their first try (43′), converted by Shorrocks: 6-16.
Reubenn Rennie scored the second try (58′), narrowing the gap to 12-16 after the conversion. Then Paul Ulberg scored the third try (64′), putting Toulouse in the lead for the first time: 18-16.
The fourth try, by Olly Ashall-Bott for his brace (75′), sealed the 24-16 lead. Bradford responded with Jayden Okunbor (76′), but Luke Hooley missed the conversion: 24-20.
Toulouse set to face York in the final
On Sunday, October 5, Toulouse will face York, top of the qualifying phase, at 3 PM (French time). The two teams split victories earlier this season: TO won 7-6 away on February 23, while York won 18-8 at Stade des Minimes on August 22.
Injury concerns for Toulouse: Benjamin Laguerre, the winger with 22 tries this season, fractured his hand and may miss the final. Roméo Tropis could take his place. Laguerre was previously injured in the last two finals.
